You remind me of me in my younger days long long ago! I raised 4 children on 2 acres , but did not have the milk cow. (We had milk cow when I was a kid.). But I did all the rest! Wow you bring back memories! “ You Go Girl” to paraphrase you younger girls saying. Hugs and best wishes Mama Judy ( new subscriber)

It's so great to see a younger woman actually growing, preparing and preserving food for her family! My son is 36 years old and doesn't know any women his age that can cook!! I love your pasta machine - I have an old Cuchina Pro that I keep for when the power goes out (I'm in the N. Florida panhandle) and after a hurricane, that can be weeks. I'm 70 now, and a few years ago, I did invest in the Kitchenaid attachments - SO much easier, but it's always good to have a manual option. ❤

New here. I have a clothes dryer for pasta for decades, great choice. I'm going to look around and see if your channel is for me. The wife and I are 60's and no grandkids. So the Motherhood doesn't work for me. I did watch the liquid laundry soap and enjoyed it much. When I store pasta, 2oz for each- tonight, tomorrow night and lunch the third day- 6oz. Zip the top for week after next. 12oz in each bag. For 2 60's people. Freeze dryer $4k, I dehydrate twice a week and can when it rains because I am stuck inside. A friend just came back from FL and dropped off a half bushel of tomatoes, in the DEHY while watching this. Thank you. God Bless and stay safe.

Love batch making pasta too! Took me years to discover how easy it is to dry it shelf stable so I no longer have to find room to freeze xtra. Since my kids are grown and gone, I use an xtra bedroom, cover bed with clean clear plastic table cover and be sure ceiling fan clean. I lay out all my cut pasta-fettuccine style dries best-spaghetti gets very fragile and wide lasagna style cracks up-single layer til bed is fully covered-turn on fan and leave overnight. Next day I bag it up in ziplock bags or bags of any sort even with twist tie as long as they are airtight. I store them in bedroom closet on a shelf till I want to use them and have plenty for 6-12 months. I’m always anxious to use it up because I can’t wait to do it again!

Can you make pasta with almond flour? Also can you show how to make angel hair pasta? Thanks.
@michelleslaughter8264 Жыл бұрын
The reason any flour-based good can hold together is because of the gluten in the flour. Ive never heard of almond noodles, probably because they would fall apart during the rolling and cutting process. Ive seen some gluten free pasta made with lentils! Some middle eastern shops have lentils ground into a fine powder/flour. If you dont have access to that, you'd be able to find it online. If you dont have Celiacs, just a gluten sensitivity, I would highly encourage you to try and ancient grain like Einkorn flour! The recipe would be different from this video, so you'd have to google that. Ancient grains have a lower gluten content, but its still in there. They are also *truly* non GMO. I haven't met anyone with a gluten sensitivity that hasn't been able to eat Einkorn.

@@HopewellHeights So can you totally free range your chickens without any feed? OMG that sure would save us a lot of money. I was told that the chickens today have most of the old ways of eating bred out of them. Makes me wonder now. Thank you so much. God Bless
@edenelston7668 Жыл бұрын
@@bethmitchell6981chickens won't get so hungry they starve to death; they instinctively scratch and eat bugs, grass, plants, etc. Even a vegan will consider eating a steak if it's a choice between that and starving to death. It's more about how you raise them, and the options they're presented.

According to the Illinois state extension office, for long term storage of pasta it needs to be dried for not more than two hours then frozen for only two hours or needs to be cooked then dehydrate for long term storage due to the potential of e. Coli. Great video!
@HopewellHeights2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you for sharing! The problem with that recommendation is that it takes a lot longer than two hours for pasta to dry. Pasta isn’t dry can’t be stored in an airtight container. E. Cool and salmonella are killed at 160F, so that risk would be eliminated in boiling water (>200F). In our home we do a lot of things that are advised against in the mainstream, like drinking raw milk, eating food containing raw eggs, etc. not everyone is comfortable with that but that’s ok!
@MennoniteFarmhouse2 жыл бұрын

@vintagecurio676 Жыл бұрын
I make pasta at home and in restaurants and it’s pretty straight forward. Almost every extruded pasta I’ve ever done is semolina and water. Its made to be dried. I make many variations of sheet pasta depending on what shapes I am making, what the filling or sauce will be, what the weather is like (humid or dry) etc. I almost always include egg because it adds a richness and silkiness to the dough that I’m looking for. Sometimes it’s all yolk, sometimes whole eggs and sometimes I add olive oil...or any combination in between. The most important thing you should consider beyond that is the hydration level and texture of finished product. I usually use a combination of fine ground semolina for toothsomeness and other restaurants for suppleness. There are as many ways to make pasta as there are nonas in Italy. It’s really all about learning and finding what you like.
