This was a lovely story! I may have to try this on a burst of my great grandfather. He taught at my alma mater as the head of the geography department. While trying to impress folks at a party, I mentioned his name and a grad student said they had a bust of him in their office. A week later I was holding the bust and gave it to my grandmother, who missed her dad. Most of my cousins have a child named after him, so this would be a great way to share the statue!!

the fact that you got the photogrammetry working at all is amazing, I'll definitely try the software later as for why your model is somewhat impossible to scan is because it's shiny/metallic the program thinks that the white from the shine is a part of the color, not just a bounce from the light. so they'll try to track it and get confused you can solve this problem 2 ways, 1 is to spray paint your object black and then drizzle a polkadot/dusty pattern on top of it. or you can use the lidar, which as it sounds, not that cheap knowing that this is bronze (right?) the spray paint method works since you can just wash it off later (you can even use special spray paint that's meant to be washable) and don't worry if you think you're not that good at spray painting, this is perhaps the only place where the shittier your paint job is, the better the result with be. if there's any imperfection on your coat, the software will just use it as more things to track

My Ender 3 PRO has enough miles on it to go around the entire US and is still going strong. I also use the Purple glue stick on the print bed and now everything sticks perfectly. Just reapply after several prints. You can also wash (or warsh if from Missouri) it off in the sink with warm water easily. Also, check the clearance after heating up the extruder and bed using a piece of copy paper on all 4 corners and adjust to there is a slight drag.

Grandpa days were the best-we'd go to grab a donut in the morning, and just sit in the donut shop a while. Then we'd do an errand or two, and then go to "Mrs. O's" for lunch. One of the workers there would always make my grilled cheese sandwich just so, and talk like Donald Duck the entire time.

Aw, what a sweet video, much more moving than I expected. Also, woo, Photogrammetry! I have a masters degree in the field, specifically Geomatics engineering. You did a great job with the photos, but something that would have made the computer's job much easier are control points place around your subject. Control points are just targets that are easy for a computer to see, so they help orient your camera relative to the subject. Otherwise, the program has to orient the camera relative to features on the subject itself, but the features are what you're trying to measure in the first place, so it creates a bit of a mathematical catch-22. I can't say if it would be faster, but it would very likely be more accurate.
@JeffGeerling3 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Could I have just put some pieces of black tape on the backdrop or something? Or would I need to also coordinate placement with the software I use?
@Kruglord3 жыл бұрын
@@JeffGeerling you've actually got to make sure they don't move relative to your subject, so you would want them on the turn table itself. Also, for best results, I'd probably recommend what is essentially a 4x4 QR code, the edges of black squares on white background tend to be easily extracted from the photos. Using a bunch, such that at least 3 are always visible in every photo, and each one being a unique pattern will also help the software not mix up which is which and more reliably locate your camera. If you want to get really fancy, you could build a 3D model of the turn table + miniQR codes (called fiducial markers) without your subject, then use those coordinates as control for your future models. Since the relative position of the fiducial markers are known, your solution will be much stronger
@JeffGeerling3 жыл бұрын
