I did work in Springfield for 7 years. I commuted. Always loved to go by the cemetery or drive by the state fairgrounds, like you did. Lots of history there.

A fitting memorial for a true American. All politicians should take a walk through President Lincoln’s tomb and get that feeling of being in the presence of a true patriot. A truly great American. Screw all the petty stuff and look into what President Lincoln had to deal with. Thank you JTL for this and I am glad you got the American feeling too. I have relatives buried in Oak Ridge and have visited a couple of times. You are so right that it is a must visit.

I'm a huge fan of your channel here in Peoria. I'm loving these Illinois vlogs! I haven't been to the Lincoln Tomb since my 1981 school field trip. You should check out his house there, too. Be sure to hit up the last Mister Donut left in the United States in Godfrey, Illinois. P.S. - I just discovered your Arthur Lee & Love vlogs from 5 years ago. Wow! Great stuff! I was at the Forever Changes concert in London at the Royal Festival Hall in 2003 that came out on DVD. Got to meet Arthur on several occasions. What a legend!

Happy you made it to the Cozy Dog! It was just like that almost 10 years ago! We stopped there on our way to see Lincolns tumb. On another trip we went to see his house and the museum. darn it Jordan!!! I live in springfield! wish I could have met up with you! so glad you mentioned, Mr. bertelli......he was a hoot. and that is the BEST....that he wasn't even buried there!!! LOL. the gift shop you mentioned.....has been there since the 1890's......people wanted a souvenir from Lincoln. the hearse from Lincoln's funeral is at the state fairgrounds. the Presidential Library and Museum is downtown, as is the House. the "pink elephant" used to be in from of a liquor store...and has been in parades, and all over town.

I live in Muncie, Indiana, born & raised, & in my youth my very patriotic American grandfather took us to see his birthplace in Kentucky, the Lincoln trail that his family traveled to Springfield Illinois, & his home & family grave in Springfield. What a wonderful video tribute for Ur series of great American sites. Thank U for coming to the American heartland, a region that gets less attention in our culture, but filled with beautiful folks & Americana. My dad was funeral director for funeral home in Springfield. He was Reenactor for Civil War cavalry. The one spot you missed is behind Lincoln‘s tomb where he was originally kept. Gray bribers try to break in and steal his body. That’s when I was decided to build a new tomb in honor of Mr. Lincoln. Roy’s accordion is buried there in our plot. next time when you come by here you should go and meet one of the reenactors that has all the movie props for a lot of movies that he Is involved with. He just finished up a movie in Utah with horses and equipment.

Thanks Jordan for another excellent vlog! This one I actually saw in person. On a work trip from LEX KY Newspaper to Springfield newspaper circa 1999. I was a Production Mgr and the Press Mgr. And I were driving. I literally strong armed him into stopping a Lincoln's tomb. I always took advantage of seeing anything of note while traveling on business. I paid anything personal, but when in Rome. The Press Manager loved it and thanked me for making him stop. Safe travels Jordan, you seem very happy.

Hey Jordan, not sure if you’re going to get this or not, but there is other cool side of the road stuff near Springfield. The world’s largest covered wagon is in Lincoln Illinois, and up north in Ottawa is a park dedicated to the Lincoln/ Douglas debate and a statue in memory of the radium girls. The radium girls is something you should definitely look into, and many of the girls that died died very young and are buried in lead in the cemetery there.

I love Abraham Lincoln so much and will watch as much as I can on him, but I have to say: I loved the story of Roy Bertelli, so glad you told it. Good for him, he stood up for himself. I just happened on to your video. I was born in Springfield, IL. We did field trips in the 60s to all the Lincoln sights. My Parents and Grand Parents were in the play they held yearly in New Salem. I lived there until 1969. We went to the State Fair every year and had to have a Cozy Dog on every trip. My Great and Grand Parents are all buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery. I now live in Colorado, so thanks for the trip down memory lane. Great video. Glad you enjoyed your visit.

When I went to college there (Springfield College in Illinois) my friends and I used to visit the sites all over Springfield and the mall. I used to commute everyday from Litchfield. The Presidential Library and Museum is something to see! So cool you got to see Springfield. Too bad I wasn't still living there to see you, but I like living in Missouri more.
