@antifagoat65916 жыл бұрын
Aditya Kulkarni Well, I'm an American. Let me break down our election into several factors: 1. The election was sensationalized. We were either going to get a highly controversial woman in office or a famous rich man in office. People who wanted a "genuine" candidate (they're all bought) had no choice because we have a two-party system; eg: Yeah, we have third parties, but they never win and weaken the overall left or right wing party strength. 2. The voter turnout was depressingly low. Gerrymandering and campaign strategy played into this, but much of that margin is unexplained (the white, rich, and elderly ALWAYS sway the vote but if you don't fit that group, well...) 3. We have the electoral college system as representative voting. I'm not going to explain how that works. Look it up. Those are ultimately the final numbers that won Trump the vote - not the popular vote, which he lost by MILLION OF VOTES. 4. There has been an undercurrent of the far right, and alt right, resisting and hating everything Obama's presidency accomplished for the left. They are also frighteningly authoritarian and prejudiced. All of this played well into Trump's favor. All you needed was to get the votes from those kinds of people in the right states thanks to our system. That's also why the Republicans also run congress. 5. It's *possible that there was some international collusion that helped Trump. Even if it's not the big conspiracy we all talk about, corruption is rampant. Odds are good that cyber attacks happened and had some influence on the election and scandals. The question is how much of it is an inside job and how much of it is worth caring about? - Put it all together and you get Trump. Make sense?

Stephanie G There have always been flaws with the ACA (and with EVERY SINGLE INSURANCE CO AND POLICY SINCE INCEPTION) but most problematic was Republican refusal to work across the aisle to get it right. Politics, winning, being "right" before helping us, the people. It's heartbreaking. Ironically (as his state is mentioned on video), Mitch McConnell was Head obstinate One... just shameful.
@evangeline99697 жыл бұрын
Stephanie G exactly. the reason it's not as good as it could be is because of Republican opposition in the first place. So its current version was never supposed to be static and not be improved/expanded later. The issue is not that it's not a much a better option than millions of people being uninsured. It's that the GOP simply made a decision to block Obama on everything before he was even officially in office.
@Jojirius7 жыл бұрын
I think it's helpful to point out that even Obama himself has opposition to *portions* of the Affordable Care Act. He rightfully blames Republicans for not rolling it out smoothly in their states, but he also rightfully explains that it is inherently flawed and imperfect - it wouldn't be his first, second, or likely even tenth choice if the ideal situations were right for a better system. Sometimes, as shorthand, the left will just say "Republicans are the *only* thing wrong with Obamacare" and this is blatantly false, and furthermore hurts the liberal cause because Republicans can then point to this and say it is blatantly false and the liberals are biased or whatever. I think liberals say this not to be false, but as a shorthand. The longhand version is a bit more complex. That said, I think given this new insane president Trump and his rather...overenthusiastic followers, it is perhaps helpful to keep the longhand version in our back pockets as liberals, and to remember that Obamacare isn't prefect. It is flawed, deeply flawed even, especially in certain communities where it sees little support from insurance companies or state legislatures. Hopefully with a more nuanced approach, more people will listen to reason and realize a 100% repeal of it is insanity...

im one of those people that obamacare has helped and probably saved. minimally, having access to health care (for which i was previously DENIED coverage by the FOR-PROFIT insurance industry) i was able to find out about a serious illness that - had it gone unnoticed - woudnt have presented itself until either it was too late or VERY costly to treat. what i would like to see in framing this argument is always reminding people that republicans claim to be pro-life and this issue is all about life. how can we take that argument seriously when they wont lift a finger to help get health care to people who are already living and breathing. (which is why i would also like to see the pro-life moniker in the reproductive context renamed to be what it actually is: pro-birth .... but i digress)

Midget on Meth The Republicans would freak out even more than they did with Obamacare
@Suedocode7 жыл бұрын
In order to have an NHS single payer healthcare system, the government would need to forcibly remove/buy current healthcare providers. That'd be a very controversial move constitutionally. A public option only works when everyone is required to participate via taxes. The biggest problem with Obamacare is that it tried to be a compromise between two diametrically opposite systems. A compromise in this case is only going to be worse than either of the original ones. The healthcare system either needs full capitalism like before, or full single payer like the UK.
@shug99547 жыл бұрын
Because they don't want to pay tax rather than pay for healthcare.
@danielhilson31347 жыл бұрын
The NHS works, but it has major problems, and shouldn't be a model for other countries to imitate. Countries like Germany seem to balance private and public elements of the healthcare system. There is no reason why the US can't combine both successfully. It just needs time and ingenuity to work out how to do it.

Benjamin Lewis It made it possible for me to have insurance and therefore health care. After the first year my premium went up. The insurance companies raised the premium, not the government. To increase subsidies, taxes would have to go up slightly for the wealthy which GOP didn't want. The insurance company has raised the premium every year, but it's still way less than it would be otherwise. And my preexisting condition isn't preventing me from being insured. Also, women don't have higher premiums than men now based on gender.

Jesus what an intelligent thoughtful and articulate man we had as President. How Presidential! I swear you could have cue cards, a teleprompter, pre-recorded voice over, and a ventriloquist...and Trump couldn't answer any questions this intelligently to save his morbid life. That's why he sticks to rally speeches. Smh.

Genuine question for President Obama: If the Affordable Healthcare Act was supposed to make healthcare affordable, how come it is even more expensive for average citizens? Follow question. If a law does not do what was intended, why is it that you and your constituents keep fighting for it even though it has demonstrably made life worse and healthcare more expensive for most citizens? Sincerely, -Special Education Teacher who is struggling to pay the bills
@gabesichangwa45157 жыл бұрын
More expensive for average citizens? Under obamacare more Americans have insurance now then at anytime in the history of the U.S.A. As a new law it definitely has done some significant good on a national level. Adjustments, ideas and debates obviously need to be made to better serve the populous and make reforms for certain communities but to overgeneralize it as a complete wash is statistically false

Roranora D. Vinsmoke it's like with Trump. he won due to the share of districts that expand most of the USA. therefore cities have been benefitting from the companies that fund the politicians and most districts are overlooked or hurt by further regulation brought about these sane companies. =) hope it helped. look into silent weapons Google
@brianfmiddleton7 жыл бұрын
Roranora D. Vinsmoke, Make it a law then fine people for not having insurance? Excuse me if I don't swallow your B.S. I have students who are suffering because costs of doubled and tripled for their parents. And since the objective was to make healthcare affordable, premium costs doubling and tripling is demonstrably a failure.

The vast majority of health care deals with issues unrelated to obesity or other health problems caused by conscious neglect of the body. The affordable care act covers people who suffer from inescapable diseases and conditions, not problems that were brought on by poor life choices.

as opposed to allowing a republican interviewer? All the audience would be hearing for the next two hours is people fear mongering and screaming white genocide, chemtrails, Pizzagate and Mein Fuhrer Trump. Republican are a dying breed and hopefully in the upcoming years we can have a debate with actual facts instead of some basement dweller who focuses on "if" the Politicians are shapeshifting reptilians rather than focusing on wall street thieves and the bankers who are robbing people through capitalism
@yakomuto7 жыл бұрын
" Republican are a dying breed " Um they have the majority of representatives in the House, The Senate, and on January the 20th the president elect, seems to me it's the other way around.
@maximvoltage7 жыл бұрын
No, that's if the interviewee was a Republican.
@kcunit3337 жыл бұрын
Well, if we look at the demographics and the government stats it would reveal that most republican voters tend to be middle aged to senior aged white citizens, so putting that to play it's not brain science to work out that that is the republican parties strongest demographic. I really doubt that in the upcoming years many millenniums will swing towards the republican party, a party with a majority that thinks Obama is an undercover Muslim or that climate change is a government hoax. It baffles the brain how this party will be in charge of the "free" world. God bless the world. God Bless America.

Britain Reynolds They might, but doesn't Obama Care decrease the rate at which they increase in comparison to before?
@britainreynolds73657 жыл бұрын
Joe Higgitt Maybe in some states, but at least here in California (ironically a liberal state) my health care costs have increased on obamacare for the last 3 years. The system needs to be scrapped or reformed in my opinion
@joehiggitt73447 жыл бұрын
Britain Reynolds Are you saying they didn't increase in any years apart from the previous three?
@noahz.20547 жыл бұрын
he is saying they increase way more drastically than before, see e.g. arizona. meanwhile the quality of coverage continues to go down. just admit that obamacare didn't work and let's together work on a system that is substantially better
