He did have to drop the case, but because he was salty he editorialized comments about Biden being too old and then passed his report without the normal judicial review that would have removed such unprofessional, political jabs.

When voting is compulsory (such as in Australia) the politicians are forced to pitch their policies at a large portion of the population who don’t have extreme views on issues. When voting is not compulsory the politicians are more likely get votes if their policies target the extremes, since the people in the middle are less likely to bother voting anyway. Hence you end up with parties representing the political extremes and people in the middle are forced to accept one extreme or the other. The result is a divided population with no middle ground. Sadly the forefathers of the US did not account for this phenomenon.

This is not an exaggeration: my partner and I were only able to afford to buy our house because of the pause on federal student loans during covid. I had just graduated literally the year it started, got a raise and went full time at my job and we saved like crazy for the down payment. Now that student loans have resumed, our spending power has dropped, leading to longer wait times before we can invest in our house and land. We don't mind paying back our student loans, but it does have ripple effects on the economy.

@@MillennialHeretic Maybe, that's definitely a possibility. But my current student loan payments are around $700 a month. My partner's payments are higher, since she went for a masters degree. There is absolutely no way I could have bought *any* home on my income if I was also paying that amount. Same for her. Even together with the pause, it was still a lot of sacrifice and saving in order to make the house purchase happen. Not as an excuse, but housing in our area is is insanely high within city limits, forcing us to buy outside of them. So it isn't as if we were trying to buy out of budget. We just wouldn't have been able to buy anything if there hadn't been the student loan payment pause. There's no way around that.

If you watch the PBS live stream there is no cut, and at most it seems like a second wave of applause, maybe jokingly or ironic by Republicans, to him saying "If I were smart I'd go home now." Well, Trump is only getting between 3/5ths and 4/5ths of the Republican primary vote. The primary voters are the most ardent 50% of Republicans. Registered Republicans only make up about 30% of the country. So Trump is only appealing to the extreme of the extreme, if that isn’t a sign of extremism what is? Orin Hatch was a Senator for as long as Biden, his home in Virginia was worth at least $5 million. There are few Politicians who _don’t_ cash in. Let’s make that illegal. Make them give up all outside sources of income besides their ample salary (the minimum a member of Congress makes is $174,000 a year). There is no evidence that Biden is doing anything to invite unauthorized immigration. We need humane and just and lawful immigration reform, we all know this.
