The apology in the African context needs to be broadened to include the pain that we caused among ourselves and the affected groups.

No! You do not speak on behalf of Zambia. All the slaves who came from Zambia were sent to Zanzibar by the Arabs who caught them; and sold them, thereat, to other Arabs from the Middle East. The black Americans are derived from slaves who were sold from Gambia. Why does Zambia need to apologise for the sins of Gambia? Peaceful people like the Tonga, Ila, Soli, We, who are the original Zambians, never attacked a single person in their existence, much less enslave or sell anyone into slavery. Why should they be apologising when they have their own problems, such as having historically been attacked and robbed of cattle and women by the Lozi/Sotho-Kololo from the West, the Bemba from the North, Ngoni/Chewa from the East and the Ndebele from the South? No!!!! Zambia is NOT apologising to anyone.. You can apologise alone if you want to, but Zambia is NOT apologising. Museveni DOES NOT speak for Zambia

It brings sad memories to hear. This has brought it in a different dimension that our ancestral leaders played a role it it. They could have done it out of fear and ignorance not to mention tribal wars brought about by the invenders. I was just listening to Arab Trans-Sarara Slave trade which went on for 1300 yearscompared to Trans-Atlantic one which lasted for 400 years. The apology from the President is a good gesture from our generation as it could have been any of us. I have mate Afro-American in the US and Canada who have at so many occasions shared admiration for the Motherland.

Not only did the Arabic slave trade go on for 1000 years longer than the Trans Atlantic one, but most of the enslaved Africans who were captured do not even have descendants to speak out for them today because there was a systemic genocide via castrating the males and killing any children born to the women who were raped. The remaining descendants scattered throughout India/Pakistan and some places in Arabia have been left out of mainstream society - they are not educated and do not have the means to be online and interact with the rest of us. Thank you for mentioning them. I'm from East Africa and I always try to speak for them whenever I can. Asante (thank you).

It was done out of conquest for power, politics, and wealth. Not fear and ignorance. Vast empires were built upon it. Tribal conflicts and wars happened before outsiders arrived. TRUE, AFRICAN EMPIRES THOUSANDS OF YEARS BEFORE ROMAN AND EUROPEAN EXISTED HAD MANY TYPES OF HUMAN SLAVES THEY CONQUERED. AFRCICAN AND ARABS WERE IN THE SLAVE TRADE. THEN OTTAMAN EMPIRE HAD SLAVES OF WITES. ROMANS LATER ENSLAVED MANY ETHNIC EUROPEANS , EGYPTIANS, PARTS OF AFRICA. SINS COME BACK. TIME TO COEXIST HUMANS

And he should not have said it because he does not speak for us on this. Museveni speaks for Museveni alone, as an individual. We who come from East, Southeastern and Southern Africa are from an area that did not have anything to do with the transatlantic slave trade, and so we reject, refute and repudiate this apology. We do not owe anyone any apology for what was done by Ghanaians and other West Africans

You should be taking your grievances to Nana Akuffo of Ghana. Museveni speaks for Museveni alone, as an individual. I see pieces of the puzzle coming together to correct a great tragedy in our history. I am amazed at the timing of certain events at this hour but believe it is God's timing. I appreciate the apology and think it is a needed part of healing for the souls of the Diaspora. My prayer is for many to return to help build up Africa to help the local people and restore it for God's glory.

I wish that all 54 countries participated in this ceremony. How do we get the ears and hearts of the global African Diaspora to listen and to participate in this type of ceremony at one set date and time. The energy would be spectacular, and it would resonate with many. By Africa, the motherland, opening her arms to legally provide citizenship to the offspring of enslaved Africans, the world's trajectory drastically changed. Africa was used to give Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, etc... what they are experiencing today. The future is Africa.

It will happen, I’ve heard a African politician speak on offering dual citizenship before and she was address all African countries to offer it. Hopefully some day soon this dream will be a reality 🙏🌍❤️

Why would all 54 countries participate....West Africans were the ones selling people like cattle.
