The English proficiency of many Ghanaians is very low. Over 70% of the population lack comprehensive understanding and command of English. Therefore it is very poor reflection of our communications to continue to convey major government policies, budgets, and programs in English. We leave millions in the dark and disconnected. I would say that, the president’s speech must be recast with voice over in all the major languages of the country. It’s a mockery of our independence and pride to be communicating in English when 70% of the people don’t have a good grasp of the language. I dare anybody to go out tomorrow to the market women to ask them what they heard from the president’s speech? Present the speech in all the major languages with English subtitles. That is what makes sense and get the people onboard.
