I think engines now are cleaner from an emissions view, and slightly more efficient. As for the food industry, wheat, for example, has been modified to suit the fast food industry. The same could be said for chicken. As for the pharmaceutical companies, do they really want cures for cancer, MS, ALS , for example? I would opine no. There would be drastic cuts to the labor force in those sectors. Then there is AI . We really don't know what effect that will have. Tony said there would be drastic hurdles to face. Replace hurdles with the word pain from a financial aspect, and I think it is a more accurate statement.

The game plan then and now is to upsell to loaded profitable models. The other problem is a fickle market and people not actually buying what they say they want built. Yes, in the past others have said that, but those were just words. This new administration has already shown signs of action on that. If he can do what he says he will do, this country will see things grow at a pace faster than the industrial revolution and will benefit the average Joe. I for one look forward to it for many many reasons.

I'll chip in a bit. Several leaders have already changed their tune on war. This is good. The USA is still a military superpower, almost hyperpower. Their equipment is advancing in tech. EV's are a problem when it comes to the batteries. People want small 1/4 ton trucks. End the Chicken Tax. Civilian consumer trucks should be on the same chart as consumer cars, but they're not. People want the Toyota Hilux. It looks cool. There should be an import change on vehicles that didn't meet regulations. Reduce the ban from 25 years to 10 years.
@whichfinger17 күн бұрын
A couple of points: 1. Yes, military high-tech stuff is getting more lethal and user-friendly. It has to get more user-friendly because schools are turning out increasingly dumber product. 2. Schools are efficient at dumbing down the citizenry, who are increasingly intellectually and physically lazy. The military has had to downgrade physical fitness standards just to keep skeleton crews on duty. 3. One unavoidable issue with the size of pickups is ... well, their size. They're far more lethal to non-trucks in a collision. Smaller pickups are desirable for many reasons but, while large trucks are predators, small trucks are members of the group labeled prey (non-trucks). This would be the case for the decades it will take for big trucks to make their way to the pick-a-part graveyards. This isn't a deal breaker but it can be a consideration.

One of my pet peeves is the contradictory standards that the government puts in place. Safety standards and such increase the weight of a car; but that increased weight has an adverse impact on fuel economy and emissions standards. And, of course, trying to achieve each of these standards only drives the cost of vehicles higher. They need to look at the entire thing wholistically and determine the priorities.

A few months back we pulled my dad’s old 83 Olds full sized wagon out of the barn, 307 with a quadrajet and 200r4, started right up with gas and a battery after being parked in 97 when he retired. He used it like a work pickup truck for his surveying crew, gear and 4 people. We found his fuel / odometer log he had to keep for expense claims and it got 26mpg average over 200k miles. That’s better than many new pickup trucks and it was just as effective for work.

The EPA and the DOE have played the same dirty tricks on our automakers, and our HD truck diesel engine makers for decades. They set a standard and when the companies met it, they said "If you can do that then you can do this!" and raise the bar again. The diesel makers finally told the EPA "We've gone as far as we can with this. Now the emissions controls are affecting the fuel economy." (Paraphrasing here of course.) Caterpillar finally dropped out of the truck engine market, because the headaches outweighed the benefits.

I have been a Democrat for many year, I have worked in an auto plant for 10 years, I have guns, I go to church when I can, and I also support unions and the working class. The problem is the other side paints anyone with a (D) next to their name with such a wide brush that you're automatically a liberal or far left if you even say the slightest thing bad about trump. I never said a word when Bush got elected or when trump got elected the first time. The first time he trump was in office, there were guardrails in place in case he went rogue and those guardrails aren't going to be there this time, the republicans are in control of everything. My grandparents were immigrants and he has stated that he's going to be going to be doing mass deportation of illegals. So let me ask you a hypothetical question, let's say he does the deportation of the illegals but doesn't stop there, what if he starts deporting U.S. citizens just because he thinks they shoudn't be here. And yes a question like this is on the table because there won't be anything to stop him from doing it. Would you be ok if he just went crazy and started deporting people just because he thinks they shouldn't be here even they are US citizens?
