President William Ruto interview: What's Kenya's role on the global stage?

Redi Tlhabi discusses Kenya’s role as a US ally and security partner with President William Ruto.
United States President Joe Biden hosted Kenyan President William Ruto on the first official visit by an African head of state since 2008. The two leaders discussed a deepening partnership around US investments in Kenya’s trade, technology, green initiatives and debt relief.
Biden has designated Kenya as a major non-NATO ally, while rivals like China and Russia have grown in influence on the continent.
The trip bolstered Kenya’s reputation as a peacemaker in neighbouring conflicts, like Sudan’s civil war, and on the global stage. In Haiti, Kenya is leading a multinational peacekeeping mission funded by the US, with 1,000 Kenyan police officers deploying imminently to fight gangs in Port-Au-Prince.
Kenya’s closeness to the US amid public outrage over US support for Israel has also raised questions. The East African nation supports a ceasefire and two-state solution, but has fallen short of condemning US policy towards Israel amid its eight-month-long military assault on Gaza.
So how is Kenya handling a close US alliance amid regional and international conflict? And will Ruto’s policies withstand mounting criticism?

Kenya is not a NATO member so it can still benefit from other bilateral agreements it already has with many nations. As a Canadian-Kenyan, I am proud of him. It was a smart business move and will be rewarded accordingly. I think KDF should collaborate with IDF in restoring peace in the Middle-East now that Kenya is accruing Israeli Spyder Air Defence System from Rafael Rafael Advanced Defense Systems under a one billion agreement with Tel Aviv government officials. Israel has also benefited as a major non-NATO member, there is also a strategic security benefit with USA and British in hosting their bases in northern Kenya close to the Somalia border. After independence Kenya has maintain a very healthy billarteral relationship with both nations and KDF will collaborate in Yemen to suppress the Houthis after Kenya/s ministry of defence signed a framework with USA last year to defend the Red Sea which appears to now be finalized. Kenya is also one of the most stable democtratic nation unlike other nations in that region with shifting politics. Beyond the reality that every country including Kenya must formulate external relationships that advance its national interests, a conundrum exists of misrepresentation of Countries' intentions whenever interests between Countries are misaligned. And silly terms such as Proxy, Puppet, Client, etc.. are casually appended. So, South Africa, for example, has taken to maligning those African Countries like Kenya which have taken international relationship positions that are at variance with South Africa's BRICS power-gerrymandering. This South African bile is evident very clearly in TIhab's interview with President Ruto. But Kenya will not be joining the South African BRICS bandwagon anytime soon. it is a foregone fact that going into the future Kenya cannot and will not flourish if she remains under the shadow of South Africa, and so must strike out on her own tangent that curves a destiny totally independent of South African influence. As a South African, your point is valid and your informed to your own opinion. In terms of economic being a superpower on the continent, I and probably some other South Africans are a lot more concerned about our potential new government forming stable and progressive economy as its being stagnant for a long time than undermining and outperforming other fellow African power houses like Kenya. I'd rather hope and wish that we can have an economic pan-African unity than seeing each other as competitors. I just think that some South Africans and other fellow Africans are just concerned and hope that President Ruto's move to send Kenyan soldiers to Haiti is in the best interests of the people of Kenya and will not end up having that the US use Kenya in some political proxy war on the continent. I will be hated for this. Ohh I will be hated for this. We Kenyans we are proud. We like to look good, we like appearances. Ruto is the master of appearances. Here is the reality about Kenya: #1) We have an educated workforce and people who have a culture of working very hard. Kenyans are generally outgoing, social and friendly...to foreigners. All these strengths are ruined by:- #2) Tribalism. On paper we are 47 tribes United under one flag. In reality Kenyans we are fiercely tribalistic in a way that we hurt each other. Kenyans who care about others not of their tribe are there but extremely rare. I have seen some one loose his life just because he is kikuyu and others for similar reason. This Haunted me. Kenyans want their tribe n power, to have the MOST powerful people in government and high places. Infact in offices people hurry to enploy tribe mates. As a result innocent hardworking Kenyans from smaller less powerful tribes suffer. Most of us Kenyans don't see this as a problem and we claim to be patriotic and love the country where as we we only care about our own tribal communities. #3) We are a proudly christian country but our actual value system does not reflect this. Success at all odds is our real value amassing material wealth and power at all costs. As an Africa and a Kenyan, I can tell this a poor man believe poverty is a mystry need God or Witch docter to be solve The poor hare believe, money come from the government and government says money come from citizens i.e tax The system of Kenya is base in communities, So the poor will want someone strong enough who talks loudly and a thief to take money from the national government to share with them. No matter how learned and wise youre , you must come from the big communities and have those features above. We are at conflict right now, OUR traditional V/S globalization Kenyans love to enjoy the fruits of this age but not want to participate the globalization work well enough. Kenya is a good country but have communities which have no history of working together for common good .we are working in this first
