President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's recent trip to France aboard a new Airbus A330 has sparked controversy, particularly against the backdrop of ongoing legal disputes over Nigerian aircraft. The newly acquired jet replaces the 19-year-old Boeing 737-700 used for presidential travel. This development follows a court order obtained by Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Limited, a Chinese firm, which has seized two Nigerian jets and other properties due to an alleged breach of a 2016 business deal. Despite the release of one aircraft, the firm retains the others and additional assets under a British court order. The upgrade of the presidential jet, which cost Nigeria over $100 million and was facilitated by L & L International LLC, raises questions about its necessity and the timing of such a purchase amidst economic challenges.
