Entrepreneur and presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will discuss his vision for the defense of the American homeland, including how that vision applies in the Middle East, in an address at Hudson Institute. Following his remarks, he will sit down for a fireside chat with Hudson Senior Fellow Michael Doran.
About the Presidential Speech Series:
The 2024 presidential election will coincide with a time of fundamental global transition. From the ongoing war in Europe to the Chinese Communist Party’s increasingly aggressive challenge to the US, the next president will need to demonstrate strong leadership, strategic thought, and the ability to craft clear policy and shape the national consensus.
For more than 60 years, Hudson Institute has challenged conventional thinking and helped manage strategic transitions to the future through interdisciplinary studies in defense, international relations, economics, energy, and technology. Hudson is guided by the understanding that American leadership is vital to security, freedom, and prosperity.
In that spirit, Hudson has invited leading presidential candidates to share their views on America’s role in the world and the principles that would guide their foreign and defense policies in the inaugural Presidential Speech Series.

You see the same thing as I do. The key to understanding Vivek is he is motivated by challenge and accomplishment. He wants to be the one who rights the American ship of state when decades of others failed miserably. That is his Golden Fleece guarded by an unsleeping Deep State which Vivek intends to slay. He's an energetic, overachieving, workaholic--just the kind of guy we need as President. If elected and even modestly successful, he will have made his mark in history. And he knows it and that is his driving force.

As a 43 year old, I was raised a patriot with many veterans in my family. I always voted (informed of issues and candidates) as a part of my civic duty. I have never been “excited” about a political candidate. I every election is a lesser of two evils. Rather than voting for who would do the most good, I often have found myself voting for who will cause the least amount of harm. Vivek is the first candidate I have ever been excited about. I am hopeful for the future of this country as I haven’t been for a very long time. I sincerely hope that he gets the nomination, although that would require Trump set his ego aside and do what is best for the country, which we all know won’t happen.

My constructive critique is that even though I know what they’re doing to Trump is just a political prosecution of a banana republic, we need to come together and realize there might be a more competent candidate for the job. I believe Vivek is that. Trump was a good president but also fell short on many promises. Didn’t finish the wall and Mexico didn’t pay for it, added 8T to national debt, could not repeal Obamacare, push vaccinations and incentivized big pharma, and most importantly, did not drain the swamp at all, the swamp actually got worse. Put Betsy Devos in DOE with no change at all. So for me, time to move on. Vivek will not be dupped by his advisors because he knows the law and understands it. I’m all in for Vivek and it’s going to be our loss if we don’t elect this man.

When I see Michael Doran’s reluctance to leave the past and present political thought based on party labels and the resultant powerful party agendas, which in themselves preclude fresh new logical thought which would provide better solutions to solve America’s problems, I believe his vision is narrowed by erroneously relating in his mind the new fresh ideas he hears to the more familiar to him establishment political parties agendas and thus to “label politics”; which is the very weakness in America’s political practices that results in both Democratic and Republican politicians putting political gain for their Party first, and putting the welfare of the United States of America and its citizens last. Despite that Vivek Ramaswamy handled the interview politely, with honesty and intelligent logic. Ramaswamy’s fresh approach of pursuing what is best for the United States and the vast majority of its citizens is our best hope for a great future. I voted Trump in 2016 and 2020 and still have great respect for him as an outstanding man. Far more in the interest of America’s people than his predecessors were. But I do believe Ramaswamy’s rational approach to each problem will make America’s common citizens prosper again, to once again be able to better afford their own home and leave behind the hand to mouth barely survival existence resulting from past administrations putting special interest segment of the population first, even above our countries welfare. Things have gone from bad to worse, and Biden has been so corrupt, and a traitor in the opinion of many citizens for no longer enforcing our southern border and so many other travesties, that the great harm he has done the United States has woken Americans to the prospect of America becoming a third world country. Vivek Ramaswamy is our hope. And at 38, he easily could vigorously empower a 2nd term. Let us hope and pray.

Glad to see you turned comments back on. That was disgusting. Now, for the interview, it's fine to press a candidate, it's fine to disagree with a candidate, but much of what happened here was quite silly. Vivek was frequently very clear and specific, but Michael kept trying to ask these pointed questions with the purpose of boxing him into a corner to force him to say something he doesn't mean. Michael, you understood his points, but you just wanted to try to get him to say something dumb. Is that his purpose as the interviewer/moderator? Watch his John Stossel interview. Great work! He pushes back and parses out more details, but doesn't try to box him in to anything, and doesn't waste time on topics that have been spelled out quite clearly. Vivek2024!

If vivek is not the Republican candidate and Trump is, then Trump needs to pick him for his VP pick so that the vex only negative attributes of no "experience" is taken away from the detractors. I've been following him since he started his run for office and he has been saying everything that I've been saying for the past decade to friends and family. And the interviewer needs to specify a question and let him talk

Vivek was clear and concise in his views on these critical conflicts. We cannot afford loose deals and weak commitments on these fronts like we have had. I loved how Vivek under rude pressure from the gray haired gentleman remained calm and straight forward. As a leader one needs this quality to be effective under stressful conditions. Biden would have wet his pants pressured like this and Trump would have just made jokes.

A 'think' tank is not helped by having a flustered interrupter represent them...Mr Dolan does ask some apt questions but for a richer discussion this 'senior fellow' ought to listen more and be willing to recognise more lucid approaches that are less stuck in the binary-partisan mud. I don't know much about the ins and outs of foreign policy but I do know new bridges and incentives are needed. Bravo V.

Vivek is a synonym for a high-performer. Maybe USA is not yet ready for such an rational and intelligent person in the white house. Probably the best way is, when Trump wins the 2024 election and then hands over the office 2028 to Vivek.

0:56: 🎙 Mr. Bramaswami, a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, presents his views on National Security at the Hudson Institute. 7:48: ⚠ The speaker is concerned about the potential for larger scale conflict in the United States and warns against repeating the mistakes made in Afghanistan. 13:27: 💣 A ground invasion in Gaza by Israel may lead to vulnerability in the South and an attack from Hezbollah in the North, potentially dragging the US into a two-front war. 19:54: 💡 The speaker believes that the United States should move from strategic ambiguity to strategic clarity in defending Taiwan against a potential Chinese invasion. 26:24: 🌍 The speaker believes in reviving the extreme ideals of the American Revolution to unite people across their differences. 32:11: 🔍 The speaker discusses the need to dismantle the Russia-China alliance while securing peace in Ukraine, questioning the purpose of the war and the representation of Russian-speaking regions in Ukraine. 38:10: 🌍 The speaker discusses the need for a serious threat of military force to reach an agreement with Russia, China, and Iran, as they cannot be easily persuaded. 43:33: 💣 The speaker believes that the US should exit the Middle East engagements and that there will be consequences for any attacks on US targets. 49:24: 💡 Israel's objective is to defend its right to exist without relying on the rest of the world. 55:20: 🌍 The speaker believes it is not coherent to worry that the US retreat from the Middle East will create a vacuum for China to ally with both Iran and Israel. 1:01:09: 🌐 The discussion focuses on the importance of the Zangazor Corridor in connecting Central Asia to Europe and its potential benefits for Iran, Armenia, and the United States. 1:06:50: 🗣 The speaker discusses the lack of recognition of the Armenian Lobby in American politics and highlights the importance of focusing on issues that directly relate to American interests. 1:12:41: 💡 The reliance on Rare Earth minerals in China for military equipment poses a risk to national security.
