As Jared Gentile pointed out, Mt. Mitchell in North Carolina is the highest peak East of the Mississippi. Mt. Mitchell EL =6683, Mt. Washington EL = 6289.

Picked up on this too. It's not even in the top 10 highest of east coast. Mt Mitchell, Mt Craig, Mt LeConte, Mt Guyot just to name a few since I train on some of these mountains. All in NC.

Hiking the PT in under 14 hours is no joke!! Loved the video footage, and the storyline was entertaining! Specifically, the protagonists/actors were like caricatures -- what an 18 year old ROTC member aspires to be in 10 years.

He said the Eastern seaboard. Is Mitchell inland a bunch maybe? I wonder what race they're doing by Tahoe. That's an awesome area to run in.

Mitchell is taller but washington is" bigger" ... around 1000' more vertical gain.

I think you’ve got it. While Mitchell and about 9-10 others are higher, I think Washington has the most prominence east of the Mississip.

"At over 6000 feet Mount Washington is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River" 9:33. NOT. Mount Mitchell in North Carolina is 6684 feet compared to Mount Washington's 6289 feet. In fact, Mount Washington isn't even in the top ten east of the Mississippi. All of the top ten are in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.

It’s got to be tough to aclimate to the elevation that quickly. Flying in, quick camp, hitting 6k ft on the trail the next day.
@gabriellloyd3 жыл бұрын
The whites don't really need much acclimation, you barely begin to notice altitude at 6k feet. And most of the presidential mountains are 4-5k only mount Washington reaches 6k
