One thing I love about Awakening is how much it lets you throw your weight around. You're constantly allowed to say "hey I'm the Hero of Ferelden I killed the archdemon" and watch NPCs shit their pants and fall over themselves over you it's a fantastic feeling

In all honestly Zevran should've returned for Awakening since there is obvious setup for him to keep following the warden till he eventually sets out on his journey to prove why he was the best assassin the crows ever had. Also, I would've loved a cameo of the best doggo. Why is my dog missing?

There is no good reason our best boy dog was not in awakening especially since there really isnt any need to pay a voice actor for more lines. oh sure they could have ser pounce a lot and speaking characters interact with dog but I would have been fine with the standard interactions your wardens have with him where he barks happily and roll around on his back when you pet him. Maybe have dog helping you sniff out components for wades armor and the sword vigilance

As much as I would've loved to see Alistair come back to help out the Warden, it does make sense that he can't, especially if he is made King. It does make sense having Oghren at the Keep especially if he wasn't allowed back in Orzammar or would've been casteless, so I think they made the right choice with bringing Oghren back.

My go to returning companion has to be Loghain. He definitely deserved more screen time if you chose to make him a companion. Plus if your warden is marrying Anora its great potential father in law bonding time.

So a couple a requests 1. Dragon Age Origins Origins tier list 2. To get the most time spent with the Awakening squad go grab Sigurn but don’t do the mission then grab Valenna then do the quest or leave to go grab Justice so with that you can get everyone personal quest (to be fair you already probably this but better safe than sorry) 3. How to improve the Dragon Age Inquisition origins and 4. When you get to Inquisition would you do the Champions of the Just mission since most playthroughs have the In Hushed Wispers mission and it is a very underrated mission also the Templars could get some love.

In all honesty, Zevran and the dog should've returned. I know Zevran needs to hunt down the crows, but he could've held off on it to help us finish off the darkspawn. But there is no excuse for the dog not being there, that's our boy and he would never leave his owner's side. I know he helps fill up the kennels, but that can wait until the darkspawn are dealt with.

For the Comment Question: This one's a toughie. Let me hit you unconventionally with it. Awakening should've taken advantage of the temporary companion framework to offer cameos for the best hits. Brief cameo of mage-grandma in the city. Warden Allister or Loghain could've accompanied for the initial attack on the fort, before being called back after the Joining Rites are done. Leliana suddenly appears on some chantry-mission board thing and a brief work together. I think that Bioware really realized the advantage of these types of cameos in Dragon Age 2. Especially in what they did with Zevran. That's the platonic model my answer to this comment question is framed off of.

QOD: 1.) Zevran: Not to be a warden, but to just be a friend and or assassin protector. We are kind of a big deal, made a lot of enemies, and governing Howe's old Arling would make it make sense for him to be here. And it could also help explain why the Crows (who we have no longer taking out contracts on us) took a contract out on us. 2.) Mabari: They should have implemented SOMETHING like the Ranger Spec that allows us to summon the Mabari like in DA2 but with skills. Especially since he REJOINS in Witch Hunt 3.) Either Warden Ally: Even if they only joined for the beginning portion of the dlc. It just makes sense. 4.) Any ACTUAL Orlesian Warden: Why wouldn't we have atleast 1 come to Denerim. It doesn't make sense for all of them to be at Vigil when we know there are roving bands of Darkspawn. I cannot wait to see more of this and Veilguard uploads.

I know he makes a Cameo but having Alistair be a full companion would have been fitting. First off, he is the first companion we really get to connect with in base game Origins, and most players end up having a bromance relationship with him by the end of the game. This would have been even more heightened by the fact if you romanced him, it would have sparked more dialogue from him and being able to walk around with my man would have just been the best thing about the dlc. Even if he is king, he still can peel himself from the throne to welcome us personally then just dip, so why not have him stay around a while longer? Oghren is still a bro for staying with us

Liked the joke about avoidance of political content 😅 Mark Meere and Jennifer Hale. I love the two of them. Great voice actors. To the quest: To be honest, I couldnt tell which companian should also feature in DAA, since many of them arent bound to the institution of the Gray Wardens. I think more cameos would have been cool. Actually, from a writing and world building perspective, it would have been cool, to take interesting side characters and institutions from the base game and further develope them. I do not remember DAA well, but in principle I prefer fewer more deeply developed characters and institutions over more but also more superficial ones. (For example: Mass Effect 2 introduced many new races ans organizations, but further developing the world of ME (meaning: going deeper on existing elements) as outlayed in ME1 would have been more interesting - richer and more complex if you want to put it that way -, for many (not all: Krogan society on Tuchanka was an exception) new elements of ME2 appeared only loosely connected to the older elemnts ones)

But honestly, Shale should've made a return too because I could imagine the hilarity of Shale ranting about the sorry state of Vigil's Keep early on.

I don't know how I would "fit" him into the story of Awakening, but I would have liked to see more Sten, as he's the only companion that provides insight into the Qunari, who are just a fascinating people. We do get a lot of Qunari in DA2 so it's ok.

So I tend to do this but I have two answers. Zevran is a valid answer but I feel that they missed an opportunity for logain to go through growth and expansion that was missing in the main game. Logain who dedicated his life to protecting Fereldan could have spent awakening understanding what it means to be a warden. He would have appreciated the wardens constant vigiliance and would come to understanding and appreciating his role once he fully understands the dangers of the blight and the ever present dangers of the other threats like the Architect, brood mother and others. But if all that doesn’t track…. Then Dog….hood ol’boy should have been there in awakening. There is no reason why your most loyal companion out of everyone in the story is no present during awakening but present for witch hunt. You can’t even say it’s too dangerous, he just went through the whole blight in fereldan! Love that the series is back hope u enjoyed the vacation!

I know this would’ve been a lot of work. But them sending Alister and/or Loghain off to Orlais always felt like a weird cop out, I would’ve loved to have one of those two in the game as a companion. It’d give the Landsmeet a bit more weight, too.

Alistar even though harden does not want to be king he took the responsibility due him forced rather than his own volition. So even if he is king, he would not be that bothered to fight with you even unhardened, there is only way he can be in awakening he is still a warden but since you are the leading warden in ferelden after duncan Alistar might have a different quest or new responsibilities from whiseapt. Zevran is the only candidate. But since awakening have new characters on their own they moved on from bring anyone who had major part in origins which make sense. Zeveran depends on whether he lives or dead due to various choices.

Hey, I just realised: If you like DAO and other (quasi) DND-like RPG, you should definitively look into Drakensang. (!! Not the strange "Drakensang Online" - for strange reasons that game uses the name but has nothing to do with the original Drakensang games !!) The story isn't its strong part but I played it several hundreds hours because it is a slow and nice fantasy RPG with an interesting game mechanic that follows the german version of D&D: DSA (Das schwarze Auge) / The dark eye, which is itself oriented at D&Ds mechanics (and as D&D: DSA is fantasy pen and paper with an interesting and fleshed out world [and many novels ... although these novels probably are only sold in german and have no translation ... dont know])
