Thanks for doing this. I love how you take the time to explain the Fat Channel functions. I had no idea what most of this stuff meant in layman's terms. Another good thing is how you dont try to squeeze too many ideas into each video. I want to take baby steps, I learn better that way.

This is the best explanation on how to use a compressor I've seen. Great analogies used that makes sense to me. Thanks and well done.

Bro, i love presonus. I just doing have money for all of this yet. But my mentor has a whole set up of Presonus product. So when i look at of these Presonus set-up i get intimated. But I like how you explain all the FAT channel processing. It makes so much more sense, from HIgh pass to compression. I need to finish watching the rest of your videos about this. Love it bro continue to do these training videos. Thanks! Blessings

I agree.....presonus should offer you a job. Working this mixer may be a cake walk for folks who have worked with mixers before, but for a guy like me just getting into really understanding live sound, it ain't no picnic....I know I made a good investment in getting this mixer, but these video's are helping me to get the most out of it!

this is such a great great video, i couldn't find a better tutorial for this mixer. i'm so happy and excited to mix on this. the video also does a good job simplifying things like compression which takes most people, especially me, a while to grasp. i really hope he gets more into recording with this. i have a little 2 channel mbox w PT 8, and as far as i know i wouldnt be able to record directly into protools. PT 9 and 10 are now made to be compatible with mixers other than digidesign.

Are you still working on this? A redo of this series and more videos for stuff like VSL would be AWESOME.

Please help me, how can I mix the channels separately ? If I select a channel and try to mix it it still effects all other channels. I don't know what to do ! Oh and great tutorial ! Best I've seen so far.

@kanimalkalle Thanks. I'll do that. I'm redoing this entire series and making more videos covering VSL, iPad remote mixing and integration with StudioOne Artist to use effects and plugins from your computer live on the StudioLive mixer. I wasn't paying attention to the audio the night I made these. Shot and edited them all in one shot during the middle of the night. I hate the music too.

WARNING, WARNING... If you've been doing live sound for 30 years, and you just happen to be asked to run sound on one of these units... you need to be given a heads up about something EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! I've got one of these units on loan, and have been programming all channels, in anticipation for a future live recording. Now I thought everything was set up to my specs, but being the test everything before the show kind'a guy, I decided to plug a bass guitar into one of the inputs. Boy was this a wake up call!!!!!!!! WOW... WARNING! The compression ratio acts as though it is relative to the peak output of the console. Now if you set the threshold at -15, and expect it to do anything, Iv'e got news for you.. my little test revealed that NOTHING will occur until you set your threshold down to -40 (OMG!) If I had been asked to do a show, and fiddle around with this mixer for a few hours.. I would never have figured out this little EXTREME OVERSIGHT on the part of EVERY audio engineer on the net, including PreSonus. I don't know why it is that I'm the only individual in the world that 1, finds little details such as these, and then becomes the solitary voice in the wilderness. If you don't understand what I'm saying here, your compressor will do nothing.

I messed around with the compressor on this unit, but found it really didn't affect the sound much. Now I know why.

Looking back at my message, really radical, upset comments I made. You just need to take some time and understand the 'thinking' involved in the design of this unit. It may be possible that the compression threshold is calibrated in a really messed up way. When it reads -40 it really reads -20. I don't have the console here to test, and can't give exact unity gain vs compression threshold level metering ratios. If a person is new to audio, it is going to play havoc with their learning curve. An alternate explanation is that the compression attack acts slower than the indicated ms, and this can result in nothing happening unless you take the threshold down to extreme levels. I don't know the answer, and just think that the "experts" out there should be more forthcoming with their own experiences. I hate to be the only person to break this to the world.
