Sure thing bro. that was one heck of a fish!!! I've never been ice fishing. I used to think about it all the time, but now that I have all these little kids, it just isn't an option for getting away.

Thanks! thats the biggest fish I ever caught under ice. Well, someday you'll have time to go out. I was out today in a local tourney and some of the guys with young ones that were not fishing were pulling their little ones around on sleds going around and talking to the ice fisherman haha.

Yeah, I imagine when they get older we can go as a family, those of them that are interested in it, lol. I've got one that is a total homebody. She doesn't even want to play in the snow with the rest of them, lol.

John, thanks for another great video. The reel on one of your outfits doesn't look like a traditional spinning reel. If I may ask, what type of reel is it? Does it provide and advantage over a traditional spinning reel? Thanks, CSL
@Leatherwoodoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Its an inline reel. Its called the black betty by 13 fishing. I got it for finesse fishing on light bite panfish. I like how I can hold it in my hand and it does not twist the line as much as a spinning reel. I only use it on my smallest rod and its the only one I have. Although, I have caught a 6-7 lb largemouth once under the ice with it. I do not think there is much of an advantage over a traditional reel. Just more preference on handling and feel. with maybe a slight advantage of a little bit less line twist.
@clacoe3086 жыл бұрын
Leatherwood Outdoors Thanks Jon. I went back and watched your gear video as well. I like the freefall feature which I noticed in the Presque Isle video. Reminded me somewhat of a center pin; I like the idea of more precise depth control on the fall. I can't thank you enough for doing what you do on both channels. Thanks again, tight lines, CSL

My daughter feeds her turtle these maggot like small worms, the turtle goes nuts for these,gets them at the pet store,just thought they'll be awesome for perch, anywayz keep fishin, good luck, .shakyjake out!

That was a nice rainbow. Technically not a steelhead since it never went to sea. Steelhead are andronomous fish and must live part of their life cycle in salt water. Therefore the fish in the great lakes area are not true steelhead. Nice trout though.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I never got that either. Everyone around here calls them steelhead too. I sometimes say either one.

cool man. I live in Ft Wayne, IN - Would love to get in one of these. Message me if you need a partner, sometime!
@carlpen8506 жыл бұрын
@ The Satyr... well I'm sure you must fish the headwaters of the Maumee River... I lived in the "area" for over 13 years and experienced lots of great fishing... but we have real good lunker perch fishing here in Erie especially if you know what you're doing. Erie Pa is at least a 5 hour drive from from Ft Wayne which is a long way to travel for a days fishing... and you can't go by on-line fishing reports... you actually need someone here who fishes a lot to give you a true up to date report. Today is March 4th and "ice off" is underway... we usually have excellent perch fishing from all the piers (no boat necessary) starting around St. Patrick's Day right through the month of April. A google earth search will give you an idea of how great our area is for fishing... just google Presque Isle State Park and Bay... it truly is a fisherman's paradise and I have it in my back yard. We have just about everything here... perch plenty in the 11 to 12 inch range, some of the biggest Crappies I seen anywhere, 5 pound smallmouth, lots of largemonth, white bass just like the lunkers I pulled out of the Maumee, lots of steelhead and big brown trout (but they usually split and go out on the lake by the end of April and our walleye fishing has been nothing less than spectacular the last few years and is still improving. If you're serious about wanting to check it out... I'll give you any info you want
@TheSatyr6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information! I have not actually fished any good spots on Maumee... I obviously know the Maumee runs through here to and through OH - but where abouts do you fish it? I'm pretty new to trying to target Perch and the EYES but am trying to learn what I can! I'd love to make a trip out there to Presque Isle . Send me a message as a reply
