Liam scales has t bd the most improved player this season. He's gettin better every time

His main weakness is that he gets beat for pace and can be exposed with a high line. His main strength is his aerial ability. Atalanta played into the celtic defence's strength by playing wide with crosses into the box and failed to expose their weakness with through balls through the middle. Scales is good but he can be exposed by fast forward players making runs through the middle as shown in Dortmund and even against Aberdeen last weekend.

Yep. He's been brilliant and getting better, as you say. I had my pitchforks out for Scales a few months ago, but now he's one of my favorite players in this Celtic team. And having a big, bearded, red-headed Irishman at the back is always good :)

The game suited Trusty and Scales. Atalanta couldnt get behind us to do those cutbacks they really wanted. So they pumped it high and made it like an English Champiomship game. We held a very disciplined line and our full backs got close to their overlapping wing backs all night. This stopped them getting behind us and forced them into hoofing in into the air. We did beat the Atalanta press very often, but we often pulled the trigger too soon on a longer pass when we had acres of space to run into. Great performance.

I was annoyed when Brendan dismissed being "pragmatic" before the game, especially on the back of a 7-1 scudding. But he fooled everyone with that defensive display. And it wasn't all defending: Khun, Engels, Valle, and Kyogo all had excellent chances. I was having palpitations watching the game, but in hindsight it was an excellent performance by Celtic.

This is a classic case of the manager “ papering over the cracks “ when he says the team were brilliant, Atalanta were dreadful, Celtic did well to get a point and it would appear this was the grand old team, previous European cup winners main target, a draw, yes it’s a small progression but measured against a very low bar, this thinking needs to change.
