There’s no tighter closed ranks than when clergy close ranks. Massive abuse of authority. It takes courage to take on this battle. Well done.

I don't know anyone that doesn't want child abuse to be prosecuted but those were very different times. People aren't even comfortable talking about sexuality much less predatory sexuality. I was raised Catholic and was very involved in my church and never did we encounter or hear of any sexual abuse. I was physically abused beaten both in the Catholic School and Public Summer schools but the law supported this kind of behavior then as well. I then went to the public schools for high school (also in the LATE 70s) and there were at least a dozen teachers in this prominent south suburban school that had teachers that were sexual predators and no one did anything about that either! I remember one art teacher at this school who was in charge of costumes for our Spring musical. When I went to his house to be fitted for my costume I saw photographs of over a dozen high school cheerleaders in their underwear! He was lauded as a great teacher and retired from this school after many years of teaching. We also had a speech coach that always flirted with the boys and he taught for over 30 years! When adults were told of this stuff, they found it distasteful and did nothing about it. I am glad to see the Catholic Church has at least opened this door. As far as I know only two churches have done so (Catholic Church and Episcopalian) I was a therapist for many years and have dealt with sex abuse stories from virtually every denomination (pedophilia is a disease not a sexual preference). I have yet seen any of these other denominations asking for their parishoners to come forward to report abuse. I wish Jeff Anderson would use his concern to push pressure on the legal system to ferret out cases not just among Catholics but across the board of abuse. Abuse happens in schools all the time, as well as doctors, lawyers (who only were required to not have sex with clients in the recent past), and police. As a society we need to address ALL abuse. The profile of a typical pedophile is a married middle aged man with children - this alone points out the fact that priests are not the largest group of abusers since they do not fit that MO. I am glad people are coming forward, now lets encourage ALL abused people to speak out.

Sexual Abuse against Children is about Power and that is why the Majority of Abusers are known to the Victim who They have Power/Control over the Victim .

Anderson can't 'go after' every case. He has a case against the Roman Catholic Church for creating the environment for abuse, creating a workforce of sexually stunted priests, putting them in contact with vulnerable people, and covering it up when it all goes wrong. This is organized, institutionalized evil. It should be treated as a RICO situation under the law.
