Iga had a similar problem at her own tournament in Warsaw. She had to play a quarterfinal and a semifinal the same day. I am inclined to believe that Djokovic is right about the players needing a strong players association, bith men AND women.

I also admire both Luidmilla and Elena in their soft spoken way to call out the WTA. These women have no say about their health and safety. There was an option to play a semi final on another court yesterday. They knew the forecast. Ticket sales are more important than potential injury. No sport does this to players beside tennis

It was so tough on her to be playing semifinal and final of a Masters 1000 tournament in a span of 2 hours, but she has handled the situation remarkably well - really impressed with her off court demeanour! I hope we see more of Samsonova going forward! Women’s tennis is getting better and better!

Just bad bad organising team and whoever has made the executive decision ought to realise that this affects the health and safety of the players and who's to blame when players in the long run suffer from injuries which they have accumulated due to all these factors?? Just bad bad bad.
@beautifulawa

No.... not fair. Even Pegula made reference to that in her own words that it wasn't an even playing field and that it sucks. A win is a win however, you want to win fairly and not against someone who had literally just played a semi final. It isn't Pegula's fault, she has played well. The organisation and scheduling have caused this and are not looking out for the players best interest and welfare. It's all about the $$$$. This sort of thing shouldn't happen in future.

Even with the rain, the tournament did have choices to make it fair for the players and stay on schedule. Starting with the QF, all 4 matches were scheduled for center court. It's the reason Rybakina/Kasatkina were playing their QF until 3AM. If you knew weather was gonna be a problem, the logical thing would be to schedule 2 matches on the 2nd court. The semifinal options became limited since Rybakina played so late. But if that wasn't the case, they could have started the semifinals earlier or played them at the same time. But this logical problem-solving would involve TV scheduling, ticket holders with night session tickets, etc.. All the annoying things that don't account for the athletes. So the tournament got the crappy final it deserved.

The Rogers tournament executives, sponsors, et all that make a killing off of this tournament need to construct a roof for at least center court so the weather does not stop SF or final matches. It's a disservice to the fans, but it's very unfair and disrespectful to the players for results like this to happen. The final was a sham.

Fatigue was a factor and Ludmilla despite being tired, did her best. She spoke eloquently giving her opinion and honest criticism of the scheduling. She is a very sweet player off court and if in best shape to compete, she can be really scary out there. The weather problem can be solved by putting a roof over the court and WTA knows it!

This is delusional. Samsonova doesn’t match up against Pegula. Pegula is too quick and crafty and Samsonova is too error prone and mentally weak. The only way Samsonova beats Pegula is if Pegula stays defensive and Samsonova smashes through that defense with her power.

Samsonova had to play 5 matches in 3 x days and that frankly is ridiculous. She put up only token resistance in the final....hardly surprising when there is nothing left in the tank. Instead of the final being a spectacle it was a one sided joke. That is down to the WTA....not the players.

The WTA organizers handed the final to Pegula. You tell me why they did not move the final to the next day. It has been done at other venues when the weather intervenes as it did in Montreal. Liudmila beat Zheng, Bencic, Sabalenka, and Rybakina, a sensational run by any measure. Then she was forced to play the championship match 2 hours after the Rybakina semi. Is this WTA corruption? I think so.
