JUST AN AFTER THOUGHT. MY MOTHER BOUGHT A PRESSURE CANNER IN THE EARLY 50'S. SHE WASN'T ONE FOR READING INSTRUCTIONS. WHEN IT BLEW . THE WALLS , FLOORS, CEILING, STOVE,AND ANYTHING ELSE IN THE KITCHEN WAS DECORATED WITH THAT DAYS SUPPER.THE CANNER WAS NEV ER USED AGAIN. THEY SAY THAT MEMORIES ARE THE ALBUMS TO YESTERDAYS TREASURES. I AM 85 I REMEMBER IT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY..I HAD TO HELP CLEAN IT UP HA HA

Yes, that used to happen with the old pressure canners. They are much safer now but you still have to read the instructions LOL

The pressure canners were just as safe as they are today. The problems was the people operating them at the time were so stupid they were not aware of their own actions hence why all of you had to help clean up their problems...it's only today now with technology you can't get away with any bs or you are held accountable, back then people were disgusting and had no morals or core values

You've taken away a lot of the voodoo mystery of canning, but where I am now has an electric stove. I've cooked on gas my whole life and I'm still getting familiar with the heat adjustment on this electric stranger in my kitchen. My next home WILL have gas, so I'll probably wait til then before I dive into the Mysteries of Canning. It doesn't look quite so scary and intimidating any more. Thank you.❤

Thank you! I'm trying to get the word out that for those who may have glass Mason-type canning jars within the distance of the concusion blast of a nuke strike, the preps are subject to breakage from the concusion of the blast. Recommend cardboard, bubble wrap, rags or whatever you have, to place between the glass jars. May our God continually bless you and yours!

I re-use spent lids for my dehydrated foods. Just my 2 cents. Still a bit 'scared'; but not the right word. I am watching your video....and reading my manual 'on line'. Yes to all that were gifted a pressure canner....google your make and model and there is sure to be a manual for your canner. Again, my folks 'pressure cooked' beef stew; made fruit preserves by cooking the jams for a while(never water bathed); we survived a year after her 'canning preserves'. Those jams never lasted a year...so again, no worries of poisoning. Sara(Ourlivinghomestead) got me to finally do 'waterbath canning'; I think your video will ease my mind enough to do 'pressure canning'...TY so very much.

You tube suggested your video of ‘before you buy a pressure canner’ yesterday and I watched it, noting you recommended watching this video afterwards. I just purchased an All American 915 pressure canner because although I wanted a larger one, this one fits in the limited space I have for clearance on my stovetop minus the overhang of the upper oven above the stove. I smiled seeing you still using a pan to heat your lids even though you stated earlier that it is not required anymore. Old habits die hard, huh? I also had a good laugh when you asked Google about Colorado Springs elevation because my Google device heard you so I heard the answer in stereo. Anyway, looking forward to using my new pressure canner even more after watching these two videos of yours! Thank you!

Grandmoms lived with us when I was young. Grandmoms did alot of canning, freezing, so I'm a little familiar with pressure canning. But I'm 63 and on my own , now. Next week, with deposit of my social security, I'm buying a pressure canner.. I debated between canner or dehydrated. I can't afford a freezer dehydrated, unfortunately. Maybe after I get a few paychecks in near future. I don't have farm animals, not a garden, only one bush tomato plant lol. I hope to buy seasonal produce and meats on sale. I hope to get a months worth of canned stuff. I will have to move from this house in the next month or two. Thus just as produce booms . I'm praying I can do this. I'm in central Virginia.

Thank you so much for making this excellent, easy to understand video! I've done water bath canning for a year now, and my husband just surprised me two days ago by telling me to buy the pressure canner that I have been wanting, but after bringing it home, I was nervous about using it because I didn't know what to expect, and I don't have anyone to teach me (I learned water bath canning on my own as well). I've saved this video so I can watch it again, because I've got some carrots and beans from my garden that I want to preserve for the winter. Great info!! None of my favorite recipes have "canning/processing times'' to them. How do I know how long to process them for? Where can I get "times" for salsa, already cooked beef stew, etc. Do I just follow the times for any salsa, or any beef stew recipe?
@PrepperPotpourri5 жыл бұрын
It is not recommended to can your own recipes. That being said, I do. I process for the time that would be recommended for canning the meat or fish contained in the recipe by itself. In the case of beef stew, 75 minutes for pints and 90 minutes for quarts. I do not believe that pre-cooked salsa will change the processing time

great video, found you from The Kneady Homesteader. Here is a tip if you get a canning lid stuck in your kitchen sink strainer basket (they fit inside the basket and can be impossible to pry out with a knife or screwdriver) do not panic, bail out the water in the sink then get a drill or electric screw driver, put in the appropriate bit and attach a self tapping screw and just screw the screw into the lid. This screw will allow you to pull the lid out from the basket. The next time you are in the canning section of a store you will notice that there is a silicone gizmo that fits over your strainer basket to prevent lids from going where they are not wanted.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am one of those who has bought a canner (about 3 months ago) and I'm petrified of using it. It is however, very shiny, from me polishing it every day though!....I find it difficult to read and understand instructions (I am more a visual learner) I have searched and searched for videos from someone who will show me the start to finish process. I don't mean just the filling jars or timing/pressure side of things, I mean the part where you put the water into your canner and measure it. It may sound a bit pathetic and trivial, but when you learn visually, it's a godsend. You are also very clear and calm in your instructions. So thank you once again. Morag (Scotland)
