Why use a pressure reducing valve instead of a pressure restricting valve?

KittKat - Great question! You're right, technically this is an example of a pressure restricting valve since it is only controlling the residual flow and pressure as opposed to a pressure reducing valve which controls both static and residual. Great catch - the terms pressure reducing, pressure restricting, and pressure regulating (which encompasses both of the previous) are often used interchangeably in the industry, but they do have different meanings. I see a video coming in the future on this topic!

You are confusing pressure reducing valve with pressure restricting valve, both terms are not interchangeably as you say. Please check NFPA 14 paragraph 3.3.16 (2019 edition). Your video is showing a pressure restrictive valve, so it is better to change the title of your video to "Pressure Restrictive Valve Hose Connections".
