I don't work on this stuff but I actually enjoy watching you teach because of the in depth knowledge. Great video

Solid video, sir. I trust you to run gas in my house. Very impressed that you know not all gas valves are rated for high pressure.

Good video but I'd like to add some helpfully suggestions and insight that may help some of your viewers .My experience comes from 35 years as a first responder/ service fitter for the natural gas utility in St Louis, Mo. #1 you may want to add an appropriate pressure rated cock ( shut off) between your gauge and fuel runs you are pressure testing ( this way you can isolate your gauge to ensure it is leak free and use it for isolating; you can shut it off during the pressure test and turn it right back on to verify no gauge drop.).#2 best method for use of approved liquid leak detector is a spray bottle or a round parts cleaning brush. Use of dobber just can't get to every area efficiently. #3 active leaks should be located with a tick rate electronic leak detector and pinpointed with approved liquid leak detector ( never an open flame, let me repeat never).#4 after all the appliances are connected to the fuel runs one more pressure test should be completed ( this is the low pressure test completed with a manometer ,7 to 13 inches water column). This will ensure you have no leaks on the appliance connections & no appliance gas controls or valves are passing gas. Hope this helps and stay safe out there.

can you pressure test with a 2psi to 1/2 psi regulator or do those have to be installed after ? I have a few appliances that come off each regulator and would be inline in the attic with the gas lines but cant find if the regulators are ok to be pressure tested

How much does pressure testing the gas line cost?
@phillipjoy81915 жыл бұрын
Where I live the gas company makes us test at 20 psi here in Easley s.c.
@acservicetechchannel5 жыл бұрын
If that is for low pressure, it sounds like it is just the inspector there because that is much higher than IFGC states, thanks!

This is very interesting. I just had a line added to my existing system for a generator and the installer told me that the pressure test failed because of a leak somewhere in my existing pipes. Specifically they said they tested at 4.5 psi and it dropped to 4. They're charging me a lot of money to come tomorrow and find the leak. If I understand correctly, they shouldn't have pressure tested the whole thing, just the new line.

If you think you have a leak, can you test with the blue spray stuff with gas in the line?
@acservicetechchannel4 жыл бұрын
yes but only with non-corrosive bubble leak detector, thanks!
@mathman0101 Жыл бұрын
@@acservicetechchannel even better than the dobber a spray end with the non corrosive bubble leak detector fluid would help even more as it more effectively gets into tight and small spaces. I would also pre-test and post-test with an active electronic gas leak detector after the bubble leak test. Call it a belt and braces approach but with something as dangerous as gas it really is something I would recommend.

Hey Craig I got a question. Is it possible to start an apprenticeship in one state, then halfway through you move to another state and finish the apprenticeship there? Will the credentials carry over to the other state? I live in NJ and I want to start my apprenticeship now. But I know I am moving out of state in 1 to 2 years, and I dont want to have to start it all over again. Thanks.
@acservicetechchannel5 жыл бұрын
You should contact an apprenticeship director at the state where you are moving to in order to see if they are reciprocal. It depends on the state, thanks!

Ball valve closed only rated at half a psi? Where are you getting this info? Nibco gas valves are max rated at 125 psi. Never had a problem testing a line using the ball valve in the closed position.

@Wizdomtrek you're definitely a nutty snowflake or doing a great impersonation. Did you miss a pill today crackpot?
@acservicetechchannel5 жыл бұрын
The non full port no WOG valves are typically stamped with the pressure rating with the valve closed. It certainly can handle more than that but thats the rating and IFGC states to that gas valve should not be stopping the gas during a pressure test. The Nibco WOG valves have high ratings since they are for water oil or gas, thanks!
@fathom735 жыл бұрын
@@acservicetechchannel you show the pressure gauge where the gas meter is going to end up so it's safe to assume no gas is in the line for testing right? FGC states not to pressure test with a valve separating the actual gas (boom boom)and another test medium (air or nitrogen). It also says a valve is fine to use if it can safely withstand the test pressure. Section 406 testing fgc2015. Now lets say the valve is approved for 1/2 psig for gas like you're saying, are we not allowed to pressure test it with Air at a higher rate if the valve shows a max pressure of 600 psi? My questions are directed at learning and understanding only, snowflake peanut gallery be warned. 🤣
