I did the same thing earlier this year, before I saw this video, on a 2001 50 HP Yamaha outboard on the trailer with muffs. I also sprayed the carbs while it was running. Then, I let the Seafoam sit in the carbs for a week before running the second half gallon through in the same manner. In conclusion after reading 75 replies: anyone who asks a question in here will 100% not get a reply so dont bother asking questions here. However you will get a thumbs up. Yay! 2nd it seems the jury is out on Sea Foam, the guys who use it either have mixed results or terrible results the guys who use it and say it's great are few. The replys I read against using sea foam seem much more valid with good explanations. Verdict is hung jury. My advice: just do regular maintenance, use proper fuel oil ratios 100% of time, dont use last years gasoline, store motor in building above freezing during winter, run all your fuel out of motor when in the water before trailering by disconnecting fuel supply line until engine dies, dont be afraid to use full throttle for more than 15 minutes during every outing, and let motor run for several minutes before taking off and lastly dont use premium octane in motors built for 87 and 89 octane. Avoid ethanol. And when rebuilding carb kit only use factory and never aftermarket plus never forget to change out the float when doing carb kit cleaning/ rebuild. Tip: put a marker board in your garage and log all your small combustible engine specs and always winterize your engines. I guarantee if you follow these basic guidelines you'll be able to run your same outboard until your grandson is ready for a timeless hand me down. As of right now the only thumbs up is my own. 🤣

Speaking from decades of personally using SeaFoam... not forming an opinion from compiling YT comments... it has only had a positive impact on the performance every motor I have used it in. The marinas and lodges on the big lake we're on Northern MN use it in everything from a 30 yr old 4hp 2-stroke to brand new 250hp 4-strokes. They are not going to do anything that compromises their equipment. I don't have any connection to SeaFoam, but I'd say the people I see using it make a convincing body of evidence.

One thing “power tuning” (what this process is known as) does, especially on two strokes, is decarbons deposits between ring lands, and frees stuck piston rings. I’ve taken some customers two strokes that were known to be mixed rich, and had varying compression numbers between cylinders, and completely remedy them after intently performing a “power tune” to their outboards. Some of the older service manuals actually state you should do this every couple seasons, sometimes every season, to ensure proper piston ring performance.
@thangknowa32885 ай бұрын
You should be running your boat out on the water at different loads and speeds for better effects. Many older multi carb engines don't have idle circuits on some carbs, they may idle on just 2 cylinders, reved up they all kick in. Techron and Berrymans are also great.
@Showmethefish3 жыл бұрын
A typical carb clean will do fine...carbs don't collect carbon..thats on the exhaust side of combustion...all its doing is cleaning the air and valve ports in the carb body...same as can be done with simple carb clean.. Ethonal doesn't hurt a 2 stroke it's the absorption if moisture it accumulates when not in a sealed system...and also the fuel lines needs changing on most old models because of cheap lining separation and then crumbling up and clogging up the carb...also it'll gell up in the bowl if left to long ... I tell all my people not to buy more than you'll need for a trip out if your not going regularly because of the gas going bad so fast these days...on the positive side of ethanol added is you don't have that pre ignition cladder climbing hills in our auto's... Some ask what is ethanol ? It's corn licker...pure dragster fuel...lol...

Seafoam is a great product, I reccomend it with every tank diluted vs the treatment process. Especially when you burn ethanol gas. I've never been a fan of shock treatments for an internal combustion engine and the fuel delivery system. It may even the idle out but its not healthy for the engine long term. I've seen too many engines require major overhauls long before they should who wait and use this product vs maintaining the cleanest system possible.

Seafoam is designed to break down debris in your system/lines. If you have ethanol in your lines this will speed up the process of cleaning those lines which can add debris to your gas. Sucks initially but good in the long run once it is all out. That’s why I recommend replacing lines, fuel filter and spark plugs after shock treatment.
@gophucyorselph51793 жыл бұрын
Here's a tip. The longer you let it sit between treatments the better. Letting it soak, is what really loosens up the carbon in the cylinders. I let mine set overnight between treatments and it ran better than new. Afterwards I pulled the spark plugs and you can see how shiny the tops of the Pistons were. They were they were black with carbon before the treatment

Seafoam in that gas tank may help break down that debris, down side of that is like you said it will send it through your motor. I disconnected the fuel line coming from the motor at the existing bulb (cut clamp off with crimpers). Then I removed existing bulb and line going to tank. Next, I took the new bulb and line I purchased from amazon (link in description) and removed the clamp and line from one side of the bulb. Now, you have the existing line coming from the motor connecting to the new bulb and line going into 1 gallon tank. I didn't re-clamp anything for the shock treatment, but after done you can reattach existing bulb and line or leave new line on there. I purchased crimp style clamps from amazon to re-clamp everything. Here is a kit amzn.to/2F6fbpS if you don’t already have the crimper tool. Zip-ties also get the job done, but don't last as long.

This is misleading in a couple ways. Carbs don't collect carbon, but will tarnish from the gas and two stroke oil, and seafoam may or may not help that issue. The smoke isn't the carbon burning off, that's just what Seafoam does ...makes really smokey exhaust. It will help clean a motor some but if you're having motor issues could be a lot of other things besides carbon buildup because modern gas has a lot of detergents in it already to help prevent that. Well you have the issue of cook-off with a two-stroke motor. When you shut the motor off the fuel in the carburetor is going to cook off and evaporate and leave the oil behind.
