Your paper filter should have 5 holes in it. One in the center and one in each corner. Place the center hole over the perc tube. Add you coffee then fold each of the corners to the middle placing each corner hole over the perc tube. IT makes a pillow of grounds. The filters are also called pillow filters. Wet the basket and try making without the filter using a courser ground coffee. The extra coffee oils will add more flavor

Never use a paper filter in a stainless steel coffee maker. The quality and body of the coffee changes dramatically without adding paper to the mix. Also, if you are grinding your own coffee, reduce the coarseness of the grind. You’ll have a delicious cup of coffee every single time
