CHECK the UPDATED & CURRENT FARES on the respective vendor website, www.ttc.ca and prestocard.ca, as some of the information/prices listed in the video at the time of recording may not be applicable anymore.
Whether you're new in Toronto or are traveling, using the Presto Card on the TTC enables you to easily get around in Toronto (also surrounding areas with varying fares), using buses, streetcars, and the subway. If you are a student or on a budget, you can save money on transportation by simply using the TTC, and use the online features of the Presto Card to monitor and manage your expenses. Also find out whether it is worth to buy a monthly pass for adults or students, or simply stick to single fares. In this video I will also talk about the 'auto-reload' function of Presto, which will save you a lot of time by simplifying the Top-up/re-load process.

If you're going to Toronto and Niagara and you're here only for a short time, I would say driving would make more sense (the connection from Toronto to Niagara is not as convenient yet, it's a combination of GO Bus and GO train and will take you around 2.5 per way.). But if you were to just stay in Toronto, I would say public transportation is more practical (or uber) as you won't have to look and pay for expensive parking spots.

I’m an American planning to visit Toronto next month and I hear about the Presto card. Can I use the presto card on both go transit and the TTC the same card??? I think go transit has a Day Pass that you can use between specific zones. I plan on riding go transit Lakeshore line and getting on and off at a number of stations. I am a railroad enthusiast! Also if I tap in at a GO train station,is there a time limit as when I have to tap out at another station? I have traveled on the manila transit systems in the Philippines and they don’t have Day passes but they are extremely cheap. Rather slow and crowded unfortunately
@LivinginCanada
@LivinginCanada 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use presto for TTC as well as GO transit. The 2-hr free transit is only for TTC. GO transit has a weekend day pass (also 2-day weekend day pass) which allows unlimited rides, I have a video on that which you can find in the transportation playlist. I’m not aware of a regular weekday pass, although that might exist.

I have a question! My roommate told me that when I tap a card and get on the bus, the driver will give me a little slit that I can show the driver when I come back so that I dont need to tap a card again within two hours…?? She came here a month before me so maybe she was wrong?? Do I just need to tap a card everytime I get on the bus and they will automatically count my hour??
@LivinginCanada
@LivinginCanada 3 жыл бұрын
I never heard about that before😁. I just always tap when I transfer/get on the next bus, since the presto card registers the exact hours and taps, and no interaction with the bus driver is needed. Hope that helps!

So do I have to tap on the TTC buss and then tap it again once I leave the buss, or is that only for the subway?
@LivinginCanada
@LivinginCanada 3 жыл бұрын
In Toronto you only need to tap when you get on the bus/subway/streetcar. But for GO transit, I believe you have to tap off - perhaps others in can share in this thread as I haven't used my presto card for GO so far.

Thank you so much for your informative video. 🙏 One question: I am a student and activated a "PS1" PRESTO card. I used my card with YRT (VIVA) for a single ride and it cost me $3.88. According to the VIVA's website, this fee is for adults and it does not mention anything about student fare. I think $3.88 is too much for a single ride with student fare. Although the fee of $2 for a single ride for students that you mentioned is for Jan 2021, I think a raise of $1.88 after a year is not reasonable. I was wondering maybe my card is not activated for the student fare. Thanks!
@LivinginCanada
@LivinginCanada 3 жыл бұрын
I know the terminology is so confusing. You can check out this website here: www.prestocard.ca/en/about/using-presto so ‘student’ apparently refers to this age category (‘student/youth’) and not student as in college student. College/uni students can buy a monthly pass at a slightly discounted price. I’m not sure how much it is now. But depending on how many trips you make it can be worth it! You can also get it at shoppers drug mart. All the best!

do you need to hail the bus when you want to use it? and do you need to tap on & tap off or just tap one time?
@LivinginCanada
@LivinginCanada 3 жыл бұрын
There are bus stops where the bus would stop. But in areas that are quieter I sometimes make it obvious that I’m waiting for that bus that’s approaching. For ttc buses in toronto you just tap on, but on GO buses you usually need to tap off as well so it can calculate your fare. Otherwise (if you forget tapping off) it will assume a certain fare which is likely more expensive.

@LivinginCanada
@LivinginCanada 2 жыл бұрын
On Go transit (GO buses) you can use presto. I am not sure if you can use it locally though. Presto is basically just the carrier, a card, on which you can load money and various passes, so you would need to check out on your city's public transportation website if the fare payments are supported by presto.

Canada got nice buses, and their payment system is relatively modern, but their bus routes are one of the worst I have ever seen! -Very few busses -takes forever to go from one place to another as they take long routes -same place you can reach by car in 15 mins with the bus it will take 1 hour 15 mins -expensive than so many countries

Compared to other systems in North America excluding Mexico City and New yorks transit system, The TTC has one of the best and reliable systems in North America. But compared to a place like japan or london or somewhere else in Asia, the TTC are like baby size 😂
@LivinginCanada
@LivinginCanada 3 жыл бұрын
@@transportationland6395 I couldn't agree more. The transit in Singapore and Japan is excellent. In Germany, where I lived for a long time it's also robust and very densely connected (and on time, at least back then). In terms of punctuality, nothing can beat Japan 😂, and that's my only issues with the TTC, skipped buses, bad delays at times. But as you implied, there are so many transits around the world that are so much worse (Indonesia for example!). All in all, I'm glad to have the TTC.
