Would love to see that video! I love cities that integrate the airport with the local light rail (Portland, OR; Seattle, WA, Denver, CO; et. al.)

I'm so glad you put out this video. I live in Ottawa, and have had several experiences of travelling through Pearson. I have found myself helping out people coming into Toronto who have no familiarity with either the names "Union" or "Pearson". This means that the name "Union Pearson Express" is quite useless to them. It seems to me that the train service would be better named "Airport to Downtown Train".

Car rentals are expensive because of supply and demand. During the pandemic the car rental companies got rid of a bunch of their rental fleet. Now that Canada has opened up again and production delays, semi conductor shortages etc.. there are not enough rental cars to go around. I remember before the pandemic you could easily get a rental car for like $30 taxes in per day!
@LivinginCanada2 жыл бұрын
$30 sounds like a steal! Yes, that makes sense, I hope that the supply will catch up again soon enough.

You can order Presto cards online BUT, unfortunately they only mail them to Canadian addresses....so if you're an American unless you have a Canadian friend who can forward it on to you, you'll have to wait 'til you arrive to buy one if interested.

Hi, thanks for very usefull, great video, what I would like to know is, how is it driving around Toronto? I would probably have a chance to get to Canada through IEC Working holidays, and Toronto seems to me, as a best starting point. I Would like to stay in Toronto as short, as possible, due to my tight budget, and high renting prices. About my driving skills. I have my driving license more, than 10 years, and I prefer being behind the steering wheel every possible minute, I´ve spent thousands hours behind the steering wheel, but only driving around tiny town, with cca 15 000 population, and our small county. So I´m a little bit stressed out of driving in such a huge city, like Toronto is. And when I see, how many lanes, could North American highways have, it´s making me a little bit nervous, because here, in Slovakia, 4 lanes in one direction on highway is maximum 😀 J

Even if I go to Union Station by public transport from the airport, I need to take a regular bus or subway from Union, is it possible to use it with luggage? I wonder if Toronto's buses, streetcars and subways are convenient to travel with a suitcase? Is it crowded?
@LivinginCanada Жыл бұрын
The bus from the airport has a special compartment for luggage, but yes, it can get super crowded. I prefer to take an uber if I have a lot of luggage. Btw, there's the UP express you can take to downtown which may be more convenient!
@MeiLee-t2v Жыл бұрын
Could you cover this entire topic from the perspective of an outsider who just wants to get to the city? We know that "Union" means Union Station, which is downtown Toronto, but they do not know that. We also know that "Pearson" refers to the airport, but they don't know that either. I myself have had to explain this to many confused foreigners, arriving in Canada for the first time. They do not want to take Uber or taxis.
@LivinginCanada Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a good point to use the full names so it's clearer to newcomers. I guess I got so used to just saying 'Pearson' :)
@denismccarthy9189 Жыл бұрын
I'm an outsider and have never been to Toronto but am going in a few weeks. I understood it perfectly well. Maybe people who do not have English as their first language may need clarification.

If I don’t have the cell phone plan yet. I understand that the airport has wifi so it’s ok for calling uber but once we leave the airport, does the app still be able to deduct the fare if I no longer connect to the internet? (Assuming that I pre-filled the card information in the app)
@LivinginCanada2 жыл бұрын
I believe you'd need to have internet to access the details. But I would guess that the system can still deduct the fare, as long as you have your credit card information in it...but I've never done it without connection so not sure. Good luck!

The rate difference b/w Canada and USA might be due to currency. 85 USD is roughly equal to 113 CAD as of this writing. Your channel is super helpful btw :)

When people say you have to give a tip. With a cab costing 61 dollars… no tip for you.
@LivinginCanada Жыл бұрын
Tipping is such a contentious topic. Although I always tips, I do believe that the point of tipping is that it has to be a voluntary appreciation of the service and it's up to the person tipping.
@islandgirl3330 Жыл бұрын
They have to lift your luggage in and out of the cab. It would be very impolite not to give the driver at least a 10 percent tip. I live near to Union Station. I would give15 percent. It all depends on how much I ask them to do. It depends on what you can afford. You don't have to, if you can't afford to. I find in the US, they seem to expect big tips. Toronto drivers know that a lot of people can't afford big tips.
