Great video Lee. I would have to say no to blood worm and joker as we used to allow it on our waters but it created a barrier for some who just couldn't get any or who couldn't afford it so it kind of made matches unequal right from the start. I agree it is a great bait especially in winter and when I did fish with it the fishing was great.

I think blood worm and joker should be allowed as not many pleasure anglers use it due to the price, its a very powerful bait and it's a natural source of food for fish, its also a excellent source of protein and Crude protein that is great for fish growth. Like everything should be used moderately as how it's used mixed with gravel, soil, leam etc. Great video as always thanks everyone @Preston Innovations and Lee for a good indepth video.

Have to wait, for the season to start in June. Not only yourself but all the team at Preston. Saving for one if your feeder rods. Some good ones to chose from. Thanks.

YES to bloodworm and joker. Find yourself a good tackle shop that can get it when you need it. What you don't use can be kept for the next session - bloodworm in water / joker in leam. It works out as cost effective as many other baits if you look after it. Bloodworm toughens up the longer you have it in water, and is best kept in a sealed clear food container with the water. Change the water once (midweek), or twice (if you have time), and keep it on the cold garage floor. Raw joker can be kept in the paper on the garage floor too, but keep the paper moist with an atomiser. Leamed up joker can be kept out, or it can go into the bait freezer to kill it. Dead joker in leam, added to groundbait, can be very effective for larger fish like skimmers. Anyone who has seen joker in water knows that it jumps up off the bottom, so the hookbait can be fished at dead depth, and up to 4 inches off bottom. One way to see joker really wriggle is to spray it with a sweet diluted liquid additive, like Sensas Aromix Gardons. It will bounce like a Baywatch lifeguard's chest (even Mitch's).

Hi Lee another superb in depth video. I can remember reading an article when you guys had just returned for the world champs and he said the UK anglers were way behind the European guys in terms of the ground baits they use as well as bloodworm and joker. So if we are going to compete at future international champs then we need to allow B&J, perhaps allowing in selective matches would be the best solution for everyone.

Great video, that takes the mystery out of using “the little red men”. I am a fan but there is also a lot of anecdotal evidence that using bloodworm has made previously prolific venues much harder to most other methods. The pandemic and the loss of many local tackle dealers has also made it a lot harder to obtain in certain areas.

As an older viewer (68) I think you have to start promoting B&J more purely for an international future for all the home nations. As you say maybe not everywhere but for sure you need more continental style matches where it is used, this for both float and feeder. Really good video and I particularly like you focus for pleasure anglers, nice job.

Although I've been fishing for over 40 years and coming from Northern Ireland I can honestly say I've used bloodworm and joker once when I was 14 on the Newry Canal! However, I now fish a commercial in winter that has a huge head of silverfish. I have won with silvers there even when the odd carp has been landed by others. I am definitely going to experiment more with it on certain venues here. As you know, I don't think it has it's place on the big rivers like the Bann or Loughs like the Erne but I can really see how this may give me the edge on some of those more intimate venues. Incidentally, if you are ever over here in winter, head to the Movanagher canal. It's a navigational canal on the lower Bann. When the river rises in flood, huge roach, hybrids, perch and some bream seek shelter. 10 to 18 kg is usually needed to win! Some of the roach go to 2lb! Again, another venue where I will experiment with B&J...... I'm pro for these places. 🐟🐟🐟

I'm for it. On hard days it can be the difference between a blank and a few fish in your net. A match pack is not hugely different from other baits cost wise and it's natural. If it was more widely allowed it would be more widely available (and you can scrape your own if you are mega keen). A limit on quantity like they have in international matches (but maybe lower) would make sense. Loved the video, wish I lived in one of them houses...

Hi Lee, Another great video, I would have to say yes, to blood worm and joker. I would like to also add that I do believe that bait limits should come into play, say 1/2 kg of bloodworm and a hooker pack of bloodworm. This would bring down cost and anglers would have to plan there feeding, as you have explained indoor video. Big thanks to you and the guys at Preston for producing some fantastic videos.

Joker is NOT a normal food for fish.It is gathered from stinking polluted watercourses and if it is not cleaned off properly,it is a health hazard as a lot of anglers found in the past.Bloodworm IS a fish food,Joker is not, they are completely different larvae.

Hi Lee, brilliant video as always, I've never used bloodworm or joker but surely there cannot be a more natural bait than bloodworm or joker as both these larvae can be found buried in the silt of slow moving waterways, accepted on commercials with no natural flow this may be of concern to fishery owners, but rivers and canals why not.

I’m another who has never fished this bait before. I’ve heard it mentioned a lot but knew nothing about how it was used until now. It would seem to me that if it was available to all anglers in a match then why not allow it. If availability and price were restrictive for some then maybe not. I don’t know how much it costs and presume it needs to be specially ordered through your local tackle shop. I would love to give it a go especially after seeing this video and finding out how straight forward it is to use - Thanks Lee

I'm in the pro group for bloodworm and joker. It's a natural bait, that all fish love and will eat it. I know some believe it's an expensive bait, but the reality is, it's no more expensive than having to buy casters and worms along with maggots, pinkies and squatt. Most good tackle shops will order the bait for the following week, so it is accessible to everyone. It's an easy to use bait and will get us a few fish on the days where conventional baits are less effective.
