gene Evans ...true, that, too. But aw man....saw the original 4 twice in 81...n OMG. I am 52 and I feel like I am 15 or16 again. Saw them at 14yo, turned 15 2mo later. Then again round late 81 or early 82. Cant quite remember...shit. anyway....fantastic band. Hynde is a beautiful singer, songwriter, tough lady. Martin Chambers is so humble and sweet...a monster on the skins, unstoppable! Mr. Chambers very under rated as a drummer in alot of the rag mags going around, was, back then. But screw the damn lists. Jimmy, damn what he could have been!!!

gene Evans ...damn...cut myself off. I am a married for 30 years this month woman, to my high school sweetie...well, he was done school for 3 years...16 and 20. Dec and Jan bdays. So as for Pete Farndon, good bass player n singer, believ it or not, shame for the fucking heroin n booze. Well, needless to say what I wanted to do to him and with him!!!😉😁 Mr. Farndon was not appreciated much by Chrissie when they were a couple for the 2 or 3 years. Read her book. What is one to do, right. HEY HAPPY 2019...SLAINTE!!!!!🤗🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇬🇧 May this world be a bit better and all of us kinder to others

One word that I've always used to describe James Honeyman-Scott is "tasty", but don't take that to mean "mellow". He was plenty aggressive when he had to be. A great player who didn't need to blaze all over the fretboard to get his points across.

They had the potential to be as big as anyone ever was but were brought down by drugs. Such a waste. They would have been great and become even greater. This line up was golden. Not a note out of place. Chrissie kept the band going for decades afterwards but would never come close to this again. It was a magic lineup, the kind that only comes around once a decade. RIP Pete Farndon and James Honeyman-Scott.

This must have been a helluva show. Chrissie wasn't known for being happiest person on stage, but here she looks jubilant. I've been an obsessive fan since high school in the 70s and 80s. In fact, I started a Pretenders scrapbook back then, which I still have. I've collected dozens of magazine articles and interviews. It was Chrissie who inspired me to start playing guitar, and Pete Farndon who made me want to play bass. He wasn't known as the best bass player in the world, but I really loved his style; very fluid and sexy. I echo the sentiments of other commenters who say that today's music is missing this kind of talent, and that the original line-up was the best. I was heartbroken when Jimmy died, and then, a year later, heartbroken again with Pete's death. Such a tragic end to two great players who also seemed to be very nice guys. The first album is one of my desert island records.

I saw them in SF when I was 17, at the Waldorf. They played and looked like this. So. Fekkin. Awesome. Chrissie Hynde is the essence of authentic rock ‘n’ roll, a true artiste completely dedicated to her work. Honeyman-Scott was such a great British Rock Guitar God too. Too bad both he and the bassist died of drug overdoses.

They used to say Jimmy- do Clapton, Jimmy- do BECK, Peter Green, Marriott...✓✓✓✓ on & on! That "burned out speed freak" as she referred to him posthumously was THE Best, Functioning Player while Page was in a slump. I had a great tape collection. Thanks mostly to a Gent named Keith F. She had problems or thought it was a good idea to kick at a professional photographer during the Rockpalaste Show in Deutschland. I don't know what she was doing except trying to act tough for a TV b'cast by kicking at a Press shooter. You're on TV; be happy.

Just reading the comments now, but never surprised by how many folks recognize how brilliant this original line up was, both in the studio and live. The fact that the magic lasted for less than three years only adds to their legacy, methinks. Had the good fortune to see them 'up close' in a couple of small venues just after the first album came out. Grateful I am, still, and would put those performances up there with the best of 'em. Have to think this video captures it well. Quite the outfit they were, and quite the talent that Chrissie Hynde still is, at least in my (older now) humble opinion...

This is 40 years old...just bout and still fresh tight and real rock n roll. No autotune, and other crap thats used today...Th Pretenders were great at what they did at their time and Chrissie and Martin are still in action! I sincerely hope that in Pete and Jimmys heaven, it will always be, that they will ALWAYS be as they were here. If thats what their dear, departed souls choose, of course. Loved and missed by many fans. Later on live with these four could be iffy, but alas, we all go downhill in our own ways at times. Rest in peace PGF, JHS💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💞
