Ah man…this is why I love KZbin…came up on my feed out of nowhere. Been playing 40 yrs and haven’t played this song since the 80s. Totally inspired me to re-learn from scratch, removing the mistakes I made at the time and added in since…lolz. Looks a great channel and I will begin devouring your content to keep my chops up …nice job friend and subscribed.

This is a fantastic lesson! Here’s why: 1) one of the greatest r&r songs ever, especially for lyrics, vocals, and electric guitar 2) accessibility! I consider myself lower intermediate student. I learned everything in this lesson in 2 hours. Played along with the original MTV video within 2 hours. So much fun! 3) he teaches various basic techniques I’ll be using evermore in many ways. 4) i taught myself guitar basics as a teen 50+ years ago and then stopped altogether for 50 years. Life interfered. Now that I’m retired, I have time to do the things I love. Maybe those early years help me now, but KZbin lessons like this one have revived my love for guitar. 5) Lessons like this one are just plain fun. Not necessarily easy for a beginner, but there’s nothing here that’s impossible for a beginner to learn. Just watch, listen, imitate, and learn!

I was always drawn to this song when it was being played over and over on MTV before I ever aspired to be a guitar player. It was that opening chord progression that makes you feel good inside for some reason. Now some 40 years later I've started learning guitar and my first tele should be delivered this week, very excited, and this iconic song is the first song I want to learn on it. Great tutorial! You've nailed the jangle that makes this song so great. This video deserves WAY more views and likes. 👏👏👏 Thank you! Oh and those outro arpeggios are SO satisfying 🤗

I’ll be 61 next month and have been learning guitar for 3 years. This is a great song and a really well presented lesson. I’ve finally reached a point where I can play this. But do I understand it? How? I’m not sure where the guitar journey leads but is this where it leads? From ability to understanding? Thanks again for your channel here.

I accessed your channel to check if my approach so far was correct regarding the intro lick and was pleased to note it was; but you then showed how to play the whole thing and saved me time working out all the open chords. It's a heart breaking structure very moving and complements the lyrics so well. So thanks for that.

Nice one... We've been playing this in our band for quite a while now, but I always felt it just wasn't quite right. Now I can see that it's mainly been missing the extra jangle of those open chord shapes that let the high E ring out (plus a few of the other little refinements you've given us here). Thanks sooo much for this - I'm going to make sure we do it at our next rehearsal. I thought we were fairly close, but this makes such a big difference! Thanks for putting in the time and sharing this.

EDIT - I'm very surprised to find out that this song was recorded after James Honeyman-Scott died in 1982. I totally figured this was all his guitar work. Thank you for this excellent lesson. I really enjoy guitarists, like the late James H Scott, who composed such beautiful guitar parts in rock songs and did not put all their expression into wild solos (which I can't play to save my life). I still feel its a 12-string Rick we're hearing...but whatever, even my ES-345 can dial up a nice chime with the chorus on.
