Great video. Already knew about a few of them but learned about some I didn’t know about. Just bought Dead Cells and getting Death’s Gambit this coming week. Been a huge roguelike/roguelite fan for a long time now and I absolutely love pixel art. Blasphemous looks tear inducingly beautiful but Last Night looks even better and strikes me as a modern day Flashback (Sega Genesis) which was the first game I ever played where I felt like I was playing a work of art and not just a game. Absolutely love this list. Subscribed.

love the video man, i have been following some of these games for a pretty long time and i am really sad to inform that some of these are actually in development hell and though not abandoned they haven't received any update either, or in some cases there are just 2 or 3 people working so i would say dont hold your breath cause a few of these were almost shutdown but were saved somehow.

Dully agree with that #1 it looks amazing. A lot of the others use rotation in the pixel art while dead cells uses lighting effects. It's nice that the animation in the last night is still 2d rather than just having rotated pixels.

I'm a Blasphemous backer. The tech demos and test builds the let us try were very promising. I can't wait for it to come out. Its very much like Castlevania mixed with Slain asthetics. Goddamn does Last Night look gorgeous! I want it now!

Great list. Are you going to do drawn 2D games? There are few of them coming out, you should check out Ash of Gods - it's an upcoming tactical RPG for PC and consoles. It will have hand drawn graphics, hardcore combat, lots of choices and consequences. It should come out in March 2018.

Been waiting on Children of Morta for years now and it keeps getting delayed. From my understanding the game was even in a finished state at one point but the devs decided not to release it in an attempt to make it better. I hope the wait ends up being worth it.

Where is Crawl!? It was just released to 1.0 and I have been playing it from one of the first early access versions. Its a gritty dungeon crawler where other players control the monsters, and when a monster kills you, you become a monster and they become the human. The first person to kill one of the final bosses escapes the dungeon, and the boss is also controlled by the player.

I really want blasphemous more for the art side but kinda of wimp for scary things. You should check out a game by bitmap bureau ltd called xenocrisis not because they’re from my home town but because the love of pixel art and any form expression in art 😉.
