The reason the part where Richard Gere startles Julia Robert's by snapping the jewelry box on her hand was because it was improvised....Julia didn't know he was going to do that, so her reaction that you get to see on the movie was completely 100% genuine. It was already a cute moment to begin with, but to know it was REAL and unscripted just made me love Julia Robert's even more.

A lot of Gary Marshall movies have unscripted moments that get left in because of how well they work. There's a scene in The Princess Diaries where Mia slipped and fell on some bleachers in the rain, and everyone on set stayed in character and continued the scene, so they just went with it.

They are called hookers for a reason. Back in the Civil War, Gen. Hooker had a lot of camp followers (read prostitutes) following his army, because they helped calm down his army between engagements. So, when the soldiers were asked who they were, they would just say "they're Hooker's". The name stuck. In a similar way, the English constables would write down two people having intercourse (against the law back then, unless they were married) as For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. That would be dropped down to a quicker way as F.U.C.K.ing. 🙃

The scene with the necklace in the jewelry box is famous because when the actor, Richard Gere, playfully snaps the box shut, that moment was not in the script. It was just him messing around with Julia Roberts. Her genuine laughter in response was so carefree and contagious - and the exchange showcased the couple's chemistry so perfectly - that Director Gary Marshall left the whole scene in the finished film. ♥

The polo scene, like a lot of the public scenes, was a suspense deal. Is Vivian gonna screw up and make a fool of herself? Thats why there are so many forks. Its the snooties having a secret ritual to trip up the commoners. Its also a callback to My Fair Lady, where Eliza, the cockney urchin, is brought to the races at Ascot to try to pass her off as an aristocrat.

I'm just watching this now -- but fun fact, Garry Marshall and his sister, Penny Marshall, always used the same actors. So when you find yourself saying, "He looks familiar. She looks familiar." That's because they've most likely been in their movies. They'll especially use the same main characters to be in their leading roles for other projects. If you've ever watched The Princess Diaries, you'll find scenes from Pretty Woman in it (both Princess Diaries and Princess Diaries 2) because it was directed by...Garry Marshall! Also, the guy in the store helping her with her makeover in Pretty Woman was the hair stylist in PD, the hotel manager in PW is the head of security in PD, one of the guards in PD is the elevator guy in PW, and the blonde lady at the front desk in PW is Garry's daughter, who plays Queen Clarice's assistant, Charlotte in PD. The list goes on and on. Something I love about a Marshall movie is that they put in little things off camera like, "Thank you!" or "You're Welcome!" and other little cute bits. Garry even does it in PW when he made a cameo digging in a trash can when the guy comes up looking for directions. ;-) If you ever watch Hocus Pocus, Garry and Penny are husband and wife in a little scene when the sisters think Garry is the devil. HA!

My hubster and I are very similar to your comedic duo-type personalities. He’s super introverted, mature, a planner, not a risk taker. I am his opposite in almost every way, which _can_ cause some friction, but mostly always just keeps things interesting. We are likeminded in all the things that matter and balance each other out in all the ways that need it. Also, I think in one of your very early videos you talked about how Beans it’s not her real name but basically a nickname that has morphed over time from her original name . . . and I wanna say you told us what her original name was, but now I can’t remember for sure. 🤔
