"Why are they bowing? They didn't bow to the other ones." I've got a theory. It's because Ernest is a doctor, and if any of them get hurt or killed, he can just fix them up just like he did Madelyn and Helen. In their eyes, if they make this doctor immortal, he shall practically be king among them.

That's what I always thought. I mean just think about it, Lisle probably didn't know what happens when you die since she's only 71 and you never know, accidents happen. So Madeline and Helen explained to her what happened and how he can help so they were going to give him the potion for FREE and he would be Lisles slave forever fixing everyone who "died"

In a deleted scene, Lisle practically says as much. She regards Ernest like her, an artist and god even. The deleted scene script showed that she had respect for Ernest, unlike the other two ladies. So, your assessment is basically correct.
@quentinbarrentine5114
@quentinbarrentine5114 2 ай бұрын
@@TheCombatWombat0 The deleted scene, though this part may never have actually been filmed, in the SCRIPT, there's a line that basically says that Lisle lied about being 71, and she's actually over 600 years old. She mentions regretting that the greats like Shakespeare and such rejected her offers for immortality, and she hopes Ernest won't be the same.

Her father is the director Ingrid Bergman married but then had started cheating on because he didn't want her starring in anyone else's movies, right? Or did I hear the story wrong. All I know is that at some point people boycotted a movie of hers because of her affair, and she said that she completely understood people not wanted to see her movies if they think she gave a bad performance but that she fails to see how her personal life is of any concern to them.

I have always loved this movie, especially for the ending. Bruce Willis' character chose a mortal life, and he really lived, as opposed to the two immortal women, who are doomed to live in obscurity, and are stuck with the person they hate most, each other. They are in their own self created purgatory.

There is a play where 3 people (one man and two women) die and are brought to a room in the after life. they start talking and they wonder when the torture is going to begin since each of them was a terrible person who accepted that they'd be going to hell. Time passes and nobody comes to torture them and they keep talking to each other. Woman 1 false in love with the man, the man however falls for Woman 2. Woman 2 is a lesbian and falls for Woman 1. They argue and get upset that the person they love don't love them back. Eventually they realize that they are in hell and that their torture is to be with each other for eternity.

The original ending was 27 years later in Switzerland (which they actually shot there in Vitznau). Ernest is there with his wife Toni having a picnic. Mad & Hel (still looking stunning) sit closeby on a terrace and Madeline goes off about the couple how old they are but Helen doesn't share her view anymore and looks at them with longing. Goldie Hawn said the testaudience completely deflated with that ending and it was reshot 3 weeks before release. The whole subplot with Tracey Ullman as Toni was removed. Meryl loved the reshoot ending but Goldie was disappointed...

I love the scene where the Head Witch (Isabella Rossellini) asks Streep how old she thinks she is and Streep says "38" and Rossellini grabs the mirror with an angry look on her face like "38!!" The trivia says that Rossellini was actually 39 when the scene was filmed...tho she didn't look it. Another trivia bit....Isabella's mother was Ingrid Bergman who played "Ilsa" in the movie Casablanca, the Bogart movie you loved. If you look close, you can see the resemblance.

This is such a criminally underrated comedy. It's one of my favorite satires of all time, and no one I talk to has ever even heard of it. I love the underlying commentary about how the fear of aging can destroy your life, particularly for women, and I love that that commentary arrives via spray paint and shotgun blasts and weird 80s Fabio hair. Although it is a bit ironic that the message "aging gracefully means a happier life" was delivered by actresses who have since entered their sixties as two of the most beautiful senior citizens ever.

Sounds like Zemeckis wanted it to be a TftC sequel, but probably got over-ridden by the studio. This is one of my favorite movies. And yes, not a lot of people know about it. The people that were there at the party were other celebrities who had taken the potion and had disappeared. Elvis, you recognized. But the guy with the white hair was Andy Warhol and then next to him was Marilyn Monroe and then the other guy was Jim Morrison of The doors. If you liked this one, I also highly recommend She-Devil with Meryl and Roseanne Barr. It's hilarious! Also, the effects in this movie were groundbreaking. Pretty darn good for 1992, huh? And Goldie's eyes are not the color that they were after she was shot in the stomach. They had contacts on her after she "died" But prior to that, those were her beautiful blue eyes.

I haven't seen this movie in years, happy to be seeing it again. And this was when Meryl started doing comedies and lighter stuff, which she's so great at, but at the time, people knew her for a decade of super heavy movies, many of which she did with various accents. She did this right after "She-Devil" (similar comedy). There actually is another reactor reacting to it today (or this week)(Reel Reviews With Jen)! Saw this in a midnight movie showing before it was even famous. There was no audience participation or any hype before it so I didn't know what I was in for. My 20 year old self liked the music but thought the plot was at times dumb and other times disturbing. It did not go over well with the audience which consisted mostly of male college students. Now that I'm older, and more worldly, I get it why it's so popular.

I haven’t watched this film in years. I remember it always freaked me out so I was surprised to see actually how funny it is. Maybe after Hallobeans you could watch First Wives Club. It’s one of my favourites and has Goldie Hawn. Bette Milder and Sarah Jessica Parker from Hocus Pocus are also in it and it’s just a great movie!

One of Goldie's best early films is 1978's "Foul Play" w. Chevy Chase. Bruce Willis started out on TV's "Moonlighting" w. Cybill Shepherd.

I knew Ashleigh would dig this one! It's a hidden gem, and it really should get more recognition than it does! That Bob Zemeckis, man... one of the best directors of the 80s and 90s.

Our dog's middle name is Zemeckis. Yes, I'm an 80s kid. He and Bob Gale were a magic combination, add in Spielberg and you get...the triforce?

"Spray paint me next." I am so glad you finally watched this one and love that you found it so funny! I'm also curious as to how many times you end up gagging when you watch The Fly.
