« Dab on the way out » haha awesome. Great tutorials. Been riding for 2 years now but haven’t put much practice into idling and backwards yet. Will work towards it :)

Cool. I've been riding 4 years and now I can brag about being Level 1. Thanks CH. Here's what I focused on when I learned each skill: 1.) Learn to idle. Best introduction to learn idle naturally is to ALWAYS free mount at 6 and 12 o'clock rock back idle. Doing this will get you to learn to idle. Don't forget to practice your weak side, too. 2.) Learn to ride stand up. There's two easy steps: a.) Put more weight on your pedals and less on seat. Offroad/grass riders know this best. b.) Then, just start standing up. Typically, your seat will not fall out because most people tend to set up seat kind of high. 3.) Learn to stop/stall. The ability to "put a lot of weight on the pedals" is already learned from riding standing up. So, just apply what you learned and really commit to standing up. (at this point you can also learn to HOP). 4.) Learn to ride backwards. You must take this in 90 degree's increments of the pedal rotation. From idling(mastering both left and right foot) you will be stable at 6/12 position, and from mastering stalls you will be stable at 3/9 o'clock. Slowly, rotate from each increment of 90 degrees, and develop a sense of feel of exactly where your pedals are positioned. Develop confidence that you can stop or drop into that idle at any moment. First practice, doing 1/2 rotation idles, then full rotation idles, then 1 1/2,...etc.

I make no excuses, shamelessly going to hold the next generation of riders to account. Great tip there about using the standing technique to come to a stop for bunny hops! CH.

The fact that you consider these things harder than jump mount makes me feel bad I still havent learned it and I can do all of these stuff. I'm glad you are continuing the series, that quarantine is working wonders haha. Really looking forward to the flatland guides.

Can I ask, are you riding a freestyle unicycle?? Jump mounts are undoubtedly easier on shorter unicycles. Learning/the difficulty of tricks is sooooo subjective! I interviewed about 30 riders (should have been more) and went back and forth for YEARS on which tricks I think are harder than others. For me, what it has come down to, the hardest tricks are not objectively any of them, the hardest tricks are simply those that you don't practice. But! I could also be 100% wrong! :D CH.

@@PrettyGoodChannel I just went out to practice the jump mount and got it in 20 minutes. The problem was I never tried to do it assisted, but I needed something to hold on to to get through the fear of smashing my balls. Once my body got used to what needs doing I realised why people consider the trick easy - because it is haha. I guess all I needed was the inspiration from your videos to finally go out and try it.

I find that it is helpful to keep the unicycle upright while idling instead of leaning over the dominant foot. Leaning over the dominant foot means leaning the unicycle towards the opposite side -- see video at 1:50 -- which can make the unicycle turn towards that side -- unless you're Chris, of course, as he manages to avoid any turning tendency. When moving backwards while idling, I also find it helpful to assist the lower foot by pedaling backwards with the upper foot, which makes it less tiresome for the lower foot.

wondering what unicycle you use. I mountain unicycle mostly. But i have a smaller unicycle that i do tricks on.

That was interesting & helpful but what would be most beneficial for me would be to learn how to ride my unicycle. I seem to have a balance problem & can't learn it. I think I have a mental block. 🙁👍☮️🌞

The most difficult part of unicycling I’ve found so far is finding other people who are interested in it to get some friendly competition to help progression.... that’s a trick I want to learn.

I don't need another term "blind" to be confused by - I'm gonna call it "switch".
@PrettyGoodChannel4 жыл бұрын
That's a good point, sir. As there's no spin/twist, it's kind of impossible to do a blind free mount, as a blind crankflip wouldn't be possible. CH.
