I only recently found this channel and I must say, THIS is the type of plant content I was looking for. I love all the pertinent information, especially in the documentary type videos. All of this is the kind of stuff that gets me fired up for my plants.

Love seeing the variety. I also dig that you shared prices and sources. My plants bring me so much joy but there’s only so much time available to spend on plant stuff. I would have spent many hours trying to gather all this information, this is so much better. Don’t sweat the comments about how you pronounce some words. We all have some words that we struggle with. I have to think vast majority of plant people struggle too. I find that I think I know how to say some names only to find when I try, I struggle. I resisted falling in love with variegation for a long time but goodness, the variation variegation adds to the equation does add another level of interest for me.

I just watched a video on another channel about a large collection of variegated Alocasia. The owner said the ones from TC revert pretty quickly. I believe her because she’s been growing them successfully for many years & has invested thousands in her collection.

Alocasias are great. I find them very easy and happily growing in Lechuza pon with Lechuza slow-release fertiliser semi-hydroponically with self-watering reservoir. Their roots grow really well in it and they can keep a lot of leaves thanks to it. My Silver Dragon is having it´s 11th leaf now. They don´t go dormant for me in European winters. I never had spidermites on my alocasias yet (they stay busy on my calatheas instead, I guess :-D ). 60 % humidity, light from the top, no grow light, no cabinets. I find the pon & self-watering the key to success🙂 Sinuata is listed as critically endangered in its original habitat, I have read.

One of the first big plants I bought was an alocasia from Lidl. First I had issues that none of my alos had more than 3 leafs. Now when they get aquarium water with pH perfect SensiGrow A+B and growing in Lechuza my all alos have 6-7 good size leafs year around, even during winter in dry and cool room temperature.

GREAT Vlog!!! I bought a Dawn just over a year ago. You are the only youtuber that has ever mentioned it. (sorry, Dawn but...) I think with the potting medium, it was set up to fail with root rot. I put the whole plant in an expensive big lachuza pot with pon. To late. I was able to get three corms that are now almost as big and beautiful as the original! Question, The California Alocasia.... It really looks like the Dawn? Oh, I'm So Colo with sometimes single digit humidity. My Dawn lives near my 10 gl fish tank under a grow light and seems happy. still pushing growth.

Love these! My second favorite genius. Finished moving my collection into Pon, so the adventure continues. Got a lot of corms, so let the propagation begin! Please stop showing me those variegated Jackie’s! It just keeps calling me. 😂 Curious, do you have a SWAG at what percentage of corms thrown off from a variegated plant will produce a variegated? It seems buying corms is like a lottery, but maybe I’m wrong on this and percentage is high? When I get my next inflows, I would love to hybridize an Azlani with a Melo. That color on a Melo texture leaf. 🤩

Heheh, I doubt it’s actual Walmart selling the $150+ plant-they have a marketplace, like Amazon, so various businesses sell their stuff on the site/app. If you look in the details it says “shipped from x, sold by y” and it’s usually some random company name. Also-unpopular opinion, I think some variegations of alocasia look ill. The frydek looks cool, but some of the ones with the yellowy variegation-and especially when they are still very young plants-they just look sickly to me. Additionally, I treat most of my alocasia like calathea and they love it.
