Ski jumping: Peter Prevc sets new world record with 250m leap
Slovenia's Peter Prevc has set a new ski jumping world record after leaping 250m at Vikersund in Norway.
The 22-year-old beat the mark set by Norwegian Johan Remen Evensen at the same venue in 2011, by 3.5m.
Prevc's record-breaking jump also gave him victory in the World Cup event.
Norway's Anders Fannemel was just half a metre short of the old 246.5m record in qualification, but Sochi 2014 medallist Prevc set a new world best with his second jump.
Prevc becomes the first non-Scandanavian to set the world record since Andreas Goldberger of Austria did so in 2000.
"I knew that Anders Fannemel jumped well and I had to remain focused," said Prevc, who now leads the World Cup standings on 1,250 points, 42 ahead of Austria's Stefan Kraft.
"The speed and the position was perfect. Then I just landed."
