This method does not effectively get the grease into the bushing/bearing to bar contact area. To do it properly you need snap-ring pliers to get the collars off, wipe down and apply a liberal amount of non-spray white lithium grease to the inside of the bushings and on the bar contact areas. Reassemble and wipe the excess. The spray lithium grease leaves a very thin coating of grease. The non-spray type will hold up better to the loading of the collars.

So were you able to get the sleeves all the way off?

can someone please tell me how to remove the sleeve from my barbell?? I was able to get the two retaining rings off of it but now i cannot figure out how to get the rest off and i cannot find instructions anywhere describing how to remove the rest of the sleeve

Did you ever figure this out? I'm stuck too.

I too have the same problem. I don't think these sleeves are meant to come completely off.

Does your bar have bearings or bushings? I believe the ones with bearings are not meant to be dissembled by the owner. For bushings, should be a series of snap rings. Contact the manufacturer and know which model you have.

snap ring pliers from Harbor Freight, Home Depot or Lowes.

would removing the sleeve and putting the lithium grease where the bushing making contact work? thank you
@kakasvk3 жыл бұрын
Yes it would work even better as you could clean all dust and dirt out. In that case you would benefit even more from using paste form, not spray.

does this work for bearings?

Why can't I use wd-40?
@dangoldstein1524 жыл бұрын
WD-40 isn't meant to be used for bearings under load.
