Preventing enemy CV strikes is my new hobby - World of Warships

Essex as a support CV is not as strong in striking as a regular strike CV but it can still do decent damage, given enough time. However, what I enjoy the most is hunting enemy strike CV squadrons and shooting them down before they have a chance to drop even once.
Essentially rendering enemy CV useless for a while. Usually opponents will adapt and start attacking on the opposite side of you, which can be both good and bad but I will take any victory I can nowdays.

The vision aspect yes, is a problem. Promoting more team play and cv on cv interaction is what the rework has completely destroyed so in that regard this is a positive.

My thought was always that a CV that focuses on winning the DD vs DD war will most help win the game. If there's one thing I know I ALWAYS notice it's when your team has zero DDs vs the enemy's surviving two, 5 minutes into the game. I think if the enemy CV hadn't basically suicided this game would be lost.

Finally my old job is back. Annoying CVs as much as possible. Wan to airstrike my DD? *Intercept Fighters Activated* Still want to owning my DDs? *SMOKE my team DD and make a convenient path for them, but they decided not to be grateful and leave the smoke 5 seconds later* I think there is 3 games so far where I done only 10k damage as a Essegs. But I made 40 aircrafts shot down. A massacre that I’ve never seen for a very long time. The fact that I do this so often that enemy CVs decided to report me for “inappropriate behavior”. I just do what the role said to me. Support Carrier. Annoys the crap out of enemy CVs is a part of the role of the Support Carrier. Although it took me 20 games to understand how to intercept Nachimov’s squadrons perfectly. You have to time it at the perfect time and you must have Interceptors skill to reduce fighters attack preparation time. And you have to activated when the Nachimov enter the radius it has to be perfectly time in order to reduce Nachimov squadrons. Oh and I’m not sure if it is a bug but Interceptors will persuit enemy aircrafts and ignore their petrol circle as long as they already lock on the aircrafts. I’m not complaining.

Once fighters lock onto a squadron they may pursue them outside of the patrol circle. But pursue for too long and eventually they give up

well, the rng guy was pissed because he got focused by enemy cv and vented his frustation about it, for which you could kind of sympathize imo. also to his credit he still placed first on the team, usually the temper tantrum ragers are near the bottom of the scoreboard. the encounter player just called him out for calling the cv player a son of a wh0re. i wouldnt say they were hating on each other, it was just in the heat of the moment.

It doesn't work against a good CV player - its just a consumable that can be avoided, or you can just despawn your planes if it catches you. Unless they make manually controlled fighters like back in RTS, these "support carriers" will stay a redundant gimmick - smoke and minelaying is all just to stall the game, and self-extend the CV's DPS.

Good luck trying this against a CV player with +1 braincell - some dude already showed a video where a Nakhimov completely dumpstered an Essex in no time, because it has 0 armor to protect it from HE strikes. But it doesn't even need to be a Nakhimov - even that Midway could probably force you on the defense, if he gets pissed off cuz of your fighters and decides to focus on you instead. All the Essex can do in return then, is smoke himself all game :D

If enemy CV is trying to get you killed, that means he isn't killing your team, and if you can stay alive long enough that means you did your job as escort CV imo. Ofc some spotting and damage would be nice but my main focus was kinda not letting enemy CV bully my team

Not saying you're not capable of doing it. Just saying the Essex's surface vessel is so squishy, it leaves you completely at the mercy of the enemy CV's skill - especially if its a Nakhimov, or some premium CV's that can take you out in 2-3 attack runs, not even 5 minutes into the game. Hopefully the Taihou will have better armor, but i suspect its fighter consumable's will be weaker, cuz of the mine gimmick it will have.

You can hate me on this, but i still don't understand why try to use your fighters to protect your team anyway. I wish they could be used like that, but it only works againt the "special" enemy cvs, like this one in the video. Otherwise you can complety get out of it's way and ignore it, it takes too much time to activate. It's much better to use them to spot imo. And don't get me started on how easily a Nakimov can ignore fighters and just strike your team anyway. One can say that cvs going for damage is not support, but i beg to differ. i dead bb can't shoot your team's cruisers. A spotted, then dead dd can't cap, can't do his objective. If as a support cv, forced to go back with your own squadron to your team's side, just to put a fighter over one of your teammates, which said fighter can be ignored by the cv, and it's not being used to spot, feels hardly game changing. I really miss old rts cv-s. At least there, your could really use your fighters to go protect your own teammates, while your other strike planes were free to work. It didn't hinder your potetnial. This system do. Then again, we are back at the same argument, that cv-s don't fit in this game. They are just too toxic. AA doesn't do anything, they have infinite planes, they can drop you, at least once. I guess everyone is free to play as they please. If you think that protecting your team with fighters will be tactically better and get closer to a win, do that. As this video shows it sometimes do work.... ( i don't know why i wrote this, it feel goos to rent a little )

Essex rockets and bombers are tactical squadrons, just like the super cv's. They act like an unlimited consumable.
