Hemings never conceived except in the close company of TJ and since he travelled so much, this is significant. The DNA approves all six of her children come from the Jefferson line. She was 15 when it began. It was the commonest behaviour amongst enslavers since whipping. Nice presidents you've got there, America.

They all look just lime him with that nose. Thomas couldnt have been tested because he didn't make it to be a adult. Him & another child passed. Her only children that made it to adulthood ,got married & had children were Harriet,Beverly,Eston & Madison. Sally was only a quarter white. So her children were basically all white. If you know history, you'll know that Martha Jefferson and Sally Hemings were half-sisters. When Martha and Thomas got married, they combined their slaves. They wanted to free them but Thomas was already in debt and it was expensive to free slaves, so they did their best to make them feel comfortable. Martha had a very difficult childhood with many step-mothers and an unfriendly upbringing. Sally was practically the only family she truly cared for, and she taught them to read and write. After Martha passed away, Thomas was devasted and nearly died himself from heartbreak. However, his oldest daughter helped get him back on his feet. They decided to take a trip to France and took Sally and a couple other people with them. During that time he and Sally became close, and because she was Martha's half-sister, they already had a connection. The age difference between them is odd, yes, but it was not uncommon during this time. Though there are many sides, stories, and intentions we will never know in history. We just have to try to learn as much as we can.
