I'm excited for the new Liliana. In addition to kind of predicting that she would be here on Innistrad in the block's next set, I had also predicted she would be the much needed black aligned planeswalker in the Gatewatch.

It sucks that every single Liliana planeswalker card will be forever doomed to live in the shadow of Lilliana of the Veil. It would be like trying to become a master basketball player when Michael Jordan is your older brother. She's not even that bad in a deck that would run this. In a zombie deck, you'd constantly be reviving blockers using cards like Gisa & Geralf, Relentless Dead, and Prized Amalgam in order to protect her or even kill off opposing creatures in combat using her +1 while working towards the ult. That doesn't even go to explain her viability in EDH/Commander where graveyard shenanigans are all over the place. Overall, this is a pretty nice card. An improved Endless Ranks of the Dead on a stick with pseudo removal and grave setup is nothing to sneeze at.

yeah. i look at the comments and see a lot of disappointment. commander zombies would love her. and a well built zombies deck with the amalgam and recursion would definitely have enough blockers to help her live. i don't see the huge disappointment with her.

so hyped to see a Liliana planeswalker card this set! I do like the first 2 abilities a lot. At the very least, you can ping down a bigger threat with her plus and her first minus can net you a creature or get 2 cards out of the way. The ultimate, I'm a little so-so on. It definitely needs the right kind of deck (Zombies, of course) to be really good. I wish it was an ability that would work for any kind of deck that runs black but I can't complain, my girl is getting 2 cards this set! The artwork is amazing too and as far as the story, I can't wait to see what she does in The Gatewatch.

The plus ability reminds me of Junior Jace. Junior Jace gives something -2/-0 , and Liliana gives -2/-1. Also, both say, "up to one target creature", so your not forced to minus due to an empty board state. Both also have an ability that uses cards in the graveyard.

@SeibenMTG Any chance you'll touch on the Garruk storyline and if it has any connection to Emrakul? In Garruk's Wake seems to have some Eldrazi like veins. Add in the fact he was on an "unknown plane" and I'm curious. I'm new to Lore and you've taught me most of it, so I'd love your take on if this is possible or if it doesn't meet the timeline

Zombies wouldn't be a deck in standard. There would only be one deck in standard. Reanomator. You can try durdeling around with zombies as much as you want, while you opponent is sitting on Emrakul into Ulamog on the turn you play a Diregraf Collosus. Good luck with that mate.

The Oath is pretty good in my opinion. It's removal and could make zombies in a planeswalker deck. obviously it's questionable on if it matches Fleshbag or not since it doesn't come with a body that could possibly stay around.

I think she's gonna be good in standard to help fight off human decks, she's good at staving off the werewolves as well since they typically run high power low toughness. Psuedo removal yes but it will come in handy more time than not I feel. -2 is pretty sweet for reanimator strategies and helps delirium plus it's a bit of recursion for a zombie deck. Not great but not bad either. Ultimate is (forgive me if I am wrong) endless ranks of the dead, difficult to pull off in a 60 card format no doubt but zombie commanders are gonna get a hoot out of that ultimate, zombies for days.

I'm satisfied with this. it's a diet disfigure on a stick and you can look for a creature with the -2 and fuel devler or delirium or whatever. but it's negative seven is silly, tribal zombies isn't a big thing in the eternal formats so you'll just be using it for its first and second abilitys unless if tribal zombies becomes more of a thing.

B/W tokens in standard oath of Gideon, Oath of Lilliana and Sorin, Secure the wastes and Westvale Abbey says high. This card can get there and if you have a couple of Gideon Emblems those zombies and Kalitas will win the game

Hmmmm.... this in a Gisa and Geralf EDH deck with army of the damned and endless ranks of the dead... I told my friend, the B/U siblings might get me to start playing blue, and a solid control package+ creature generation for protection, might even get that ult to fire. And her -2 puts her in Gitrog decks, potentially. Mmmmmmm, I like it.

I think she is comparable to Nissa, Voice of Zendikar. They start at the same loyality and their abilities cost the same and their ultimate is irrelevant. They are the only three mana walkers with a +1 that can defend them selves. Their second ability generates some kind of value. The difference is that Lilianas -2 Is usefull if your board is empty (but you do have a graveyard) and Nissas ability is usefull when the opponents board is empty.

I think this card is just so good. A 3 mana planeswalker with a creature removal/psuedo removal as her +1? This thing is going to threaten its ultimate fairly often. The emblem is two zombies a turn (including the turn it's ultimated). Unchecked and the growth of zombies is geometric. An opponent is only going to be able to deal with the zombies for so long. 6, then 14 zombies is gong to be able to close out a game. The ultimate is actually balanced so it doesn't just win the game outright, but it is still a win-con on its own as long as you stay alive. People saying that this card isn't good enough are not giving it enough credit as a 3-mana Planeswalker. 3-mana walkers have always been good enough for Standard play and I don't think this is going to be any different.

That moment when I realize this card is comparable to LotV, and as usual everyone else is late the field. I love spoiler season. I'm always right (always) about what cards are going to be bonkers. And it's funny to see people poorly predict and give crappy reasons why some cards are bad. With such purchases as 100, 50 cent (or so) Kolaghan commands, to calling Jace, vryn being "as much as snapcaster" when spoiled. I think I should start a channel as the only competent card evaluater.

Man people are really spoiled from Liliana of the Veil. There is a reason she is in every grindy black modern deck there is. There is also a reason why shes so freaking expensive. That's because she is op as hell. Now they come out with a decently positioned Liliana and everyone loses their mind because it is simply not as strong as old Lily. And I bet if she was as strong as old Lily everyone would lose their minds too because she is so op and will dominate the format. People can't be satisified it seems.

SeibenMTG At turn three, monowhite humans will eat her alive, the pseudo prot will not be enought to prevent her death by turn four. Bant CoCo is on the same lines by whrn the CoCo hits. Control in standard right now is non existant has most of the top meta decks are aggro to midrange fast strategies. Unless Kaladesh slow down things with uber control cards, she will not see standard play

+AioriadLeo stop trying to sound smart by repeating drivel you heard online that you don't understand. Come Kaladesh CoCo will go the way of Siege Rhino. Same for all of Origins. Many key aggro cards will be gone in a few months ie rotation. You have no idea how the meta will look. And any moderately casual player will find this a useful enough drop with a toolbox of abilities. Not everyone plays protour(even though most online talk as if they exclusively do). Think about a slowing meta and this will be solid. And Veil was broken; we all know that and we all knew it wasn't getting reprinted so stop bitching about it.
