I had the same reaction TBH. It went from "Who cares" to "Ooh this is the first Star Wars thing I've wanted to see since Andor". Part of it is just... it is a kids show that doesn't look like it's trying to be anything but a kid's show, and I think that is a lot less likely to fail than all these shows with "adult" writing full of obvious plot holes.

Snow White - As as kid it was the first movie i ever saw in theaters so I'll see it but wait for it to come to disney+ Mufasa - don't care (honestly i don't) Moana and Skeleton Crew - 100% on board. Regarding Mufasa - I love that they kept the actual Lion King lore that Scar was named Taka before he was nicknamed Scar. However, Taka is Swahili for "Waste." I cannot get over that they named the actual heir to the throne "Trash." 😂 That's what you expect the spare to be named, not the heir.

Well, since in real life, lions don't usually have only one cub at a time, it's possible they once had several cubs, and another one was to be the king, and they had a spare, and maybe another spare, and one they didn't really need, that they could afford to name Taka. And something happened to all the other cubs, hyenas do that a lot irl, and they were stuck with the one they hadn't wanted out of desperation. Just one more reason for adult Scar to hate them all and dream of being king.

I work alongside a few colleagues within my field that speak Kiswahili and also Ngoreme. They’ve told me that in regards to the name Taka, trash/waste is one meaning for it, but it also translates to desire/want/demand and wish. Even so when referring to it as trash, it is mostly said “Takataka” throughout the Bantu people. The difference between the use of the word as garbage and its formal meanings (wish, demand, desire) is all in pronunciation and its particular nuances. It makes sense to me probably because in my Polynesian culture we have words that mean multiple things but the difference being in how you speak it verbally by tone and context. Excuse the long explanation, but it will probably be useful information to at least one person 😁.

I think the only thing with that, is that he wasn't the entire movie. For this one, any emotions or dialouge is going to be from cg mouths and faces, rather than like 1 out of 6-7 characters (I can't remember lol). That being said I loved the 1st "Live action" Lion King, so I think it'll be just fine

We are shown the real world, and then we are shown this other world that we enter through a wardrobe! Then the very first being we meet is a Faun. So our suspension of disbelief is already set. We know the rules and that means that talking animals are a perfectly plausible thing in this world, and since is it is also filled with real human actors, the need for them to be lifelike meshes decently. Whereas Lion King, as far as we know, is supposed to be still set in our world (I didn't watch the live action remake so correct me if I'm wrong). So seeing these creatures talk, with working lips and all, just doesn't work.

I even waited a day, and it was still too soon to watch this after having major surgery. It hurts to laugh!! Having said that, I get so much pleasure from seeing Jay's passion he puts into everything, from being upset at Adam for not knowing who Patty LuPone is, to frustration over the realism of the animals in Mufasa (I agree, go the Homeward Bound method, worked for those movies without losing emotional attachment to the animals), to overjoyed excitement for Skeleton Crew and "sexy Dumbledore"!
