No need to apologise for crying at Coco. It's one of the most emotional gut punch films of all time. I cried watching you watch it. It hits you on multiple levels. The fur time i watched it I managed to mostly hold back until Coco is reunited with her parents and then I was in the cinema sobbing. It's incredibly cathartic and beautiful.

Speaking as a physician: This is such a BEAUTIFUL representation of the actual power of music in treating Alzheimer’s and dementia. There are several instances of remarkably clear lucid moments that have been induced in musicians, dancers and everyday people when you play a song from earlier in their life. Not just the song but moments and memories surrounding that time in their life. The blend of rich Hispanic culture, faith, music and actual sound medical science in this movie is astounding. Adam totally called the song coming back but it did the same in my own life. We watched this movie together 3 months pregnant and miscarried a few days later. Within a month- we were very suddenly called about a baby girl who had just been born who needed adoptive parents. On the way to the hospital this song played and I felt in my bones that it was coming from my unborn child. It was giving us its blessing to bring this new baby home but also just reminding us to remember it. I watched this in the Chevy dealership waiting on my car to be fixed and a very sweet older lady asked if I was ok (due to the sobbing.) Thank you both for being so vulnerable and making me feel seen on the interwebs. Jay the bit at the end took me out.

This is so true. We took care of my partner's Opa in his 90's and on his 100th birthday we got everyone together for a party. They handed him a harmonica and he was able to play the dancing song he used to play for the children when they were interned in Russia during WWII. The man routinely forgot mid-sentence which language he was speaking (he spoke 4) or who I was, but he remembered the music. Brains are so cool.

I seriously cry from the time Hector has the flashback to his daughter until the end of the movie, with a short breather during the concert hijinks. Jay, I too feel this on a deep level as a parent and wondering how I will be remembered. Will my kids remember me singing them to sleep? Or the times I lost my temper and yelled? Which moments add up to more over time? Adam, I see you. I'm still grieving the death of my dog from three years ago-- the pain fades but it's still there. Seeing everyone together at the end of the movie--living family, dead family, the pets--makes me sob the hardest. We do all get to be together sometimes... even if I can't see my pup or my beloved dead, I feel them there. I'm sure Peaches is with you all the time. Big hugs to you both ❤❤❤❤❤

Two parts of this movie that get me every time (that don’t seem to get anyone else): When Mama Imelda is chasing Miguel and he says he doesn’t want to pick sides and asks “why can’t you be on MY side?” I just well up because I feel that. Also at the end when Hector and Imelda give Miguel their blessing with “no conditions” because as at the end of it all they love him with no conditions and just want him alive and safe, it makes me a mess. Then as I’m about to recover from that we get Remember Me and I’m inconsolable.

This movie is so good because you can kind of predict every single thing that happens and yet it still hits SO hard. I remember thinking "im going to make sure this is the first Pixar movie I DONT cry through". But then it hit me as hard as it hits Jay because it is so universal. The final death scene makes me tear up because unless you are insanely popular like an actor or something like that, we will all be forgotten eventually. Also I cry at the end when music gives Coco her mind back for a bit, which can happen in people with dementia. Not going to say what, but there is a movie that deals with something said in this movie that y'all should watch. I can't say what it deals with, because it is the big reveal, but you need to watch Tim Burton's Big Fish. Also adding that it deals with a father and son's relationship as the key focus.
