Thanks Jay for this video. I have been thinking of purchasing this product for some time . Your footage of the setup and actually time it takes to clean up and set is up was real.I believe that Tuckteck should reward you for advertising for them so well. I truely like this idea because of apartment living and loving the water so much. Any feedback from you in true form would be appreciated.You did an amazing job in representing Tucktec.

Hello, thanks for the video! Clear plastics become brittle because since light can pass through them, all their molecules are exposed to UV light which can break individual bonds. Meanwhile in opaque plastics, only a very thin surface is exposed to the photons.

My two Tucktec Kayaks arrived this week. The 2021 Tucktec Instruction video on You Tube is great to cover opening and closing the kayak. The 2021 hardware makes it easier to open and close the kayak. The extra black hooks on the sides could be used for stowing a paddle (I have their folding anchor). The other outside black hooks could be used for cargo nets or a front spray shield, These two kayaks and easy of transport and setup compliments my older Old Town Sea Kayaks, one of which has adjustable side floats, a leeboard, and furling Hobie Mirage 20 ft2 sail , great for early morning paddling and cruising back with afternoon winds. Have fun paddling this year.

@@MissMaddiePie I have a very first gen oru which is a slight puzzle to assemble, not bad just not as quick as the Tucktec. We tend to take the tucktecs ones out more but we have narrow river spots to turn around in and do well with them. The oru is faster in the water and much more of an actual kayak but I can’t cross my legs to be comfy in it like the wider Tucktec… the tucktec needs more steering to keep it going straight if you have a current. so there are pluses to both for us, just depends what we are looking to do. Hope that info helps

I got the Oru Inlet 2 summers ago. Used 3 times, the black plastic at thw front cracked which they say is a common problem, kinda forgot about the kayak since then but want to use it next summer so i emailed oru which sent a replacement for the plastic that broke. I will get a tucktec as a second kayak, the Oro is god damn nice, but this seems to do the job just fine. I like a good bang for the buck, a good deal and to not feel sad if i accidentally brake something.
@randysmith6493

Looks light weight and easy to set up. That is good features as you will use it more. Words from a Kayaker. Be cautious on water that is not fairly flat. A flat bottom of a boat will want the boat to pitch with the level surface of the water more than a round bottom boat that would be unstable by nature. Flat bottom boats are stable with flat water, round bottoms are unstable by nature thus allowing for paddle brace correction allowing the boat to find stability through paddle braces and stroke movements. So harsh weather boats are more inclosed and roll easier for boat side to side leveling correction. One curious boat is the backpacking single person raft. A guy and a girl hiked from Seattle to Cold Bay Alaska along the Coast, we don’t have coastal roads. It took over a year and was non stop which included many river and bay crossing, all winter long. They eat sticks of butter for calories , and If I recall correctly you like Butter :). In and out of the water, all weight has to be center of the boat, even while beginning to rise. All weight has to be completely supported in balance one foot at a time , so all in the center of the boat or shifting quickly to the surf foot , no hesitation or dividing of balance in and out of the boat at the sane time, unless you like the boat floating away and you doing the splits. There is a side ways maneuver of paddle stroke doing a figure 8 on the side of the boat you want the boat to go moving in that direction, but you may want to learn paddle braces before you lean over the side of the boat doing a Figure 8 brace. Its a slow maneuver anyway. You looked at home in it, you’ll do great. Oh, one more thing. If you feel your boat and paddle is strong enough you might see if you, while sitting in the boat, can place the paddle behind you, bridge across both beams of the sides of the boat and the paddle blade resting on the shore (flat) and the boat at the same time. You use your entire body weight supported by your arms and hands as you push yourself up on the paddle and each rail of the boat. Now you can control your body and boat tilt equally as you try to start getting out of the boat leaning towards shore lightly . This is a three point support position across the paddle (shore, right side of boat, left side of boat). You can use this for shallow docks but that is way more tricky. This help anchor boat movement some keeping it from going out to sea from under you.

The paddle use idea to get out sounds promising. I will definitely check out the strength of the paddle but I'm not expecting much. I saw a ton of videos on how to get back into a kayak and many used their paddles with a paddle float and that seemed like a good idea. I really want to get to some clean lakes and try getting back into this kayak any way that will work just for practice and fun. The company's method is funny though since you just get right in.

Nice review. I looked into these when researching portable kayaks but went with the Oru performance touring model, since I'm a seasoned sea kayaker. The corrugated plastic on Orus is for extra stiffness and to give it a double wall. You also wipe it down before folding it up.
@JayWandersOut
@JayWandersOut 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you're a serious kayaker I would think one of the high end Oru would be better since you can even attach a skirt and all. I liked this one because it packs smaller and size and dimensions were some of the key factors in my decision. Did Oru ever solve the problem of water getting into those corrugation channels? I could see melting the ends sealed could lead to problems if driving up to high elevations.

I went with a Point 64 Mercury GTX modular kayak (about $1,000, 14 feet long...) that breaks-down into three pieces weighing about 18 lbs each. The upside of all of these folding/modular/inflatable kayaks is that we're all more likely to get out and enjoy them more often because of the transportation convenience and the immediacy of loading -up in 2 min and going. Installing a proper rack, storing a full-sized boat (!!!) ....and then strapping it down in a 10-15 minute operation -each way- just to be in the water for maybe a couple of hours made me decide for a polyethylene modular kayak where you sacrifice zero performance and can just throw the modules into the cargo area of a Mazda 3 and go.
@JayWandersOut
@JayWandersOut 4 жыл бұрын
Yours definitely sounds more rugged than mine but I totally agree. More people out on the water is great. In fact every lake I've been to lately had very very few kayakers so even doubling that wouldn't cause much more use. The trails especially in the parks are being overused especially these days but the water is still pretty empty. I can't wait to take the kayak out in more waters this coming year!

It's a carpet! It's a giant pizza box! No, it's a boat! Interesting especially with the recycled materials, low cost, and compact size but, as a paddler I'm pretty skeptical. It's working though! I bet you can catch fish on it!

I'm pretty sure a lot of people with real kayaks are going to look at me strangely every time I pull this out at a lake. I've even rehearsed what I would say when I pull it out for water vehicle inspections at some point.

It came with the paddles. I liked the feel of it but some people wanted longer ones. I thought it was nice and sturdy as well and once connected together it didn't wiggle at all.

@@JayWandersOut its not about max speed. usually you have to see the mid size speed, thats why you measure how much you padddle in an hour, knowing you cant go at full speed for one hour. usually is about 5km/h 6 in good kayaks,but id like to know if it its less then 5

Not sure I understand the sentiment here. I'm not a lifelong paddler, but I would think the concept of "any boat that can get you into the water is better than no boat" would apply here. I know that's the thought process. with my cameras and photography, the best camera to use to shoot is the one you have with you at the time.
