Later, they did a series of "I worked with Morecambe and Wise, and look what happened to me" mini sketches. Mr Privet/Preview/Previn appeared on the back of London bus dressed in a bus conductor's uniform, waving his baton. I think it's safe to say he doesn't mind that much :) And yes, this is the funniest TV sketch of all time, so far as I'm concerned !

One beautifully subtle joke in the sketch - Eric is in fact playing the right notes, in the right order, but in the wrong rhythm.

I doubt he ever feels bad about that. Its a classic sketch, and I'm sure he feels glad to have been part of it. I'm sure it did his Career no damage whatsoever, most likely enhanced it.

so, want to see the whole clip on here. Love it when Previn comes over to Eric looking aghast after he has played the wrong tune, and Eric asks him, 'Something wrong with the violins?' 'No, there's nothing wrong with the violins' he replies disdainfully.. 'Well that's only your opinion' deadpans Eric...Genius

WHO WANTS THE SHEET MUSIC of Andre Previn's improvisation there? Your responses/interest will determine whether I get around to making a transcription!

Does anyone know where the complete sketch can be found (with the couple of mins in front of the curtain before the orchestra is introduced) It is where the confusion over the name begins ( Previn / Preview / Privit) , and the reason for Eric having to stand in for Yehudi Menuhin is explained by Ernie ... ??

This "Top 50" was a few years ago, and a Little Britain sketch was at No.1. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case now, and this should be higher than No.16. Though it is my personal No.1.

Same here! I am trying to find the whole Morecambe and Wise's Singing In the Rain sketch and this one, only to find it "Blocked in your country due to copyright grounds". What!? I can't view a ENGLISH comedy duo in ENGLAND and yet they allow plentiful sketches of The Two Ronnies on here? What hypocrisy, a load of crap. Not happy.

Eric's reaction and timing at the end when Mr. Previn stops playing is brilliant. "Rubbish!" Cracks me up every time! Good sketch but Ernie is surplus to requirements in this one. What's his point in this sketch? Would have been just as funny without him. It's quite obvious who the main man was in this double act.
@Suprahampton14 жыл бұрын
@jkarani How on earth is that possible? You ask the british public what the greatest comedy sketch is & it'll be this, fork handles or dead parrot without fail
@lisabateman69896 жыл бұрын
Suprahampton I must have missed the memo then. By sheer numbers of fans, (half the country watched the Xmas show), the lads would win. Hands down! To millions of people, (me included), they felt like family. The people you mentioned were very funny. But if you asked, my guess is that nobody has ever said that they, "loved" the people that were in the shows you mentioned. I don't mean, "oh, I love the morecambe and wise show". I mean that, "oh, I love morecambe and wise". And they would mean it, probably even now. I do. X
