+Alex Rider my teacher thinks that the AP physics 1 curriculum is far too restricting with its lack of right hand rule and restriction in content, so at my school most people take regular physics, than AP physics 2, and after your done you can take both tests since physics 2 goes over the same content thats on the AP 1 test and more.

Is HZ the same as revolution per second ? if so that means the equation w=2πf is just converting the angular velocity from revolution per second to radian per second. So Why are we defining f if it's just w(omega) in different dimensions ?
@FlippingPhysics
@FlippingPhysics 6 жыл бұрын
A mass-spring system has frequency in Hz or cycles per second. A mass-spring system cannot have anything in revolutions per second, it does not make any sense. Therefore, frequency is not angular velocity in revolutions per second. Though they are certainly related because simple harmonic motion and circular motion are related.
@fahadalawadi8627
@fahadalawadi8627 6 жыл бұрын
When you define uniform circular motion as a circular motion whose angular velocity is constant, of course by constant you mean constant in magnitude and direction since it's a vector quantity, Right?
@FlippingPhysics
@FlippingPhysics 6 жыл бұрын
Yes. Because angular velocity is a vector, a constant angular velocity will have a constant magnitude and constant direction.

@FlippingPhysics
@FlippingPhysics 4 жыл бұрын
You are looking at two completely different equations. My assumption is that the equation you are looking at on the AP sheet is the period of a simple pendulum. What I derived here is the period of a conical pendulum. Do entirely different things.

8:40 Mr. P, isn't the velocity of an object in a circular path 0? The speed, however, isn't. Doesn't the circumference represent the distance covered in one cycle, rather than the displacement of the object in one cycle? I always assumed v=wr and v=2pi*r / T was relating to the tangential *speed*, not tangential velocity. One last reason I find velocity = 2pi*r / T and velocity = wr confusing: you said that tangential velocity changes even in uniform circular motion, which makes sense. However, velocity=2pi*r / T and velocity = wr assumes that velocity does not change, since r and T does not change in a uniform circular motion and neither does w change in uniform circular motion. However, we know that tangential *speed* does not change. So, dont you think these 2 equations relate tangential *speed* to w or T and r. I'm sorry if this comment was lengthy, I'm just trying to connect different concepts of physics together! Also, love your videos!
@FlippingPhysics
@FlippingPhysics 2 жыл бұрын
I think what you are missing is that when we refer to the tangential velocity of an object, we are referring to the _instantaneous_ tangential velocity. Sure, the _average_ tangential velocity for a full revolution is zero, however, that is not at all helpful as far as analyzing the motion of the object. For example, when I draw the free body diagram on the stopper, it is at one instance in time, therefore, the tangential velocity is instantaneous. Hope that makes sense!
@abdullahaddous7081
@abdullahaddous7081 2 жыл бұрын
@@FlippingPhysics Thanks for the reply! I still dont quite get it :( The circumference is scalar. The period is scalar. How do we get a vector by combining them using the basic operation? How does an expression of only scalars evaluate to a vector quantity?

2:40 wait wouldn't the mass when it reaches the top when spinning in a circle on a string have the highest angular velocity compared to the other points in the path cuz centripetal force is maximum there and Fc is proportional to w^2?
@carultch
@carultch 3 жыл бұрын
If it were in uniform circular motion, then angular velocity, linear velocity, and centripetal acceleration would all be equal at every point throughout the circular motion. However, in this example, gravity is a factor that will speed the object up as it approaches the bottom, and slow the object down as it moves upward. You could counteract this to some extent by applying work with your hand as it ascends, and letting friction slow it down as it descends. But if the non-conservative forces are negligible, it will speed up as it descends, and slow down as it ascends.
