I'm a 73 year old female Crossfitter and I'm addicted. It's so much fun ! I scale many of the WODs but I've learned to jump rope again & I'm lifting weights for the first time in my life. The coaches really watch out for me and make sure I'm lifting with the correct form. I'm proud to be at the J H Box. 🏋️‍♀️

I can do this wod at a regular gym. SWEET! Gyms don't allow us to do wall balls but the medicine ball clean is a perfect sub. Thanks!

I understand that not everyone has prefect form 100% of the time but when you're trying to teach people please have perfect form. It's one thing when you're in your last few minutes of a 20 minute AMRAP, it's another when you cant demonstrate proper rack position on a front squat with 20kg. This hurts my eyes.. and ears. This is why people bash crossfit. Please read (or re-read) the crossfit training guide. Midline stability/neutral spine, posterior chain engagement, core to extremity, frontal plane, active shoulders... I love what he says while she tries to med ball clean..."as you can see the logo is forward the whole time so she doesn't curl the ball" *she curls the ball*

I was thinking the same, thank you. A teaching video has to show perfect positions. For example, I think the back’s position in squats is not correct…

tried today for the first time ever trying to do cross fit at all it was more efective than what I usually do I am gonna keep doing this until I lose another 40 pounds thanks for posting

shickchick26 it works i lost 2% fat and gain 2% muscle and went down 2 sizes in 4 weeks. Would have lost more if i ate better. Also include some running or biking between reps and a rest time. Then repeat with less reps and less running so you dnt exaust yourself. Good luck!

Good primer. Excellent form. If you are not ready for a bar yet try it with a broomstick until you get the form down.

Wow, amazing video. Just do the exercise is not enough. To get the proper results, it is quite essential to do it in a proper manner. And the video provide wonderful guidance in this regard.

It looks to me like the Sumo deadlift High pull would cause interior rotation of the shoulders. Is that not a concern for rotator cuff injuries?

BambiJesus If she was a treadmill bunny she would look more scrawny or skinny-fat. She definitely does some form of strength, she doesn’t look weak. Most likely she just casually works out and isn’t used to crossfit exercises

I have never do CrossFit and I’m extremely out of shape and have low endurance. I’ll have to take baby steps to be able to do the complete workout.

+Armed Society is it $200 on average for all crossfits? now i see what its mostly europeans, a way to deter the dirty minorities. Guess i'll be forking out $200 to be part of a cult. But i'd probably make a bad crossfitter, cause I'd be telling the coach... "Umm this is bad posture, every single exercise, in fact the entire concept of crossfit is a recipe for injury".... The idea that speed is more important than technique baffles me.

I have been working out for about 2 months now so I'm still fairly new. However, I'm really concerned about her form. My trainer is always on my ass about form even if my foot turns a little from second toe forward to big toe forward. It is because even a tiny shift like that while picking up a load can be not only painful but can cause injury. I should know because I have lower leg dysfunction and I used to have knee pain from not having proper knee tracking. Since I started working on releases and stretches for that and practicing good form, I've been pain free.

Oh trust me I know. Now it's been almost 6 months and I'm down 64 lbs. and have never been stronger. She taught me well and Brent Brookbush has helped out so much.

***** can you link or mention what your trainer has you doing for your knee pain?.. I'm in the same boat with tracking issues as well (delayed VMO activation mostly I think)

gatekeeper88 Well she did have me watch some videos by Brent Brookbush right here on KZbin. Specifically his videos for lower leg dysfunction. Depending on if your knees cave in or bow out, you'll want to check out the videos accordingly. Find out which one it is and then watch the videos accordingly. He mentions at the beginning of every video what dysfunction the video will help out with. Hope that helps.

Her core is not braced on air squat. She is over extened in the lumbar, that's why you see the butt wink at the bottom of the air squat

What you are referring to is hipsters or cool or rich peeps, always trying something 'new' the latest and greatest outfits, classes, restaurants, clubs... Whatever you do if there is intensity it is crossfit, kicking pullups, chest to bar, knees on the floor and still trying to do a push up, but mostly being part of a community and helping others to be better by first improving yourself and then others. Bodybuilding, essentially you eat, steroids, lift and pose in super small panties...

Yeah her front squat was terrible. I'm glad my box owner coach didn't just get a weekend class to teach us cap like your trying to. He has almost 20 years of coaching. That's what sets crossfit boxes apart is real coaches vs. (90%) people looking to make some money on crossfit while it's the hottest thing. It's sad you don't correct her on camera. Do you correct your members? Probably not since you just want their money. I pay my box little over 100 a month and my coach gets in my face if my form is lacking but I'm better because of it. This ain't planet fitness.

I'm in good shape and workout regularly, and I've observed that CrossFit seems to develop more bulky, or compact muscle, rather than long, lean muscle... More like a gymnast, less like a swimmer. Can any one with experience comment on that?

technique is just technique, doesn't mean if you dont use it you will hurt yourself, maybe you will use another group of muscles but nothing more. Unless you feel pain everytime you do an excersice youll be fine

it's a demo from beginners on how to do the moves, beginners would not know this shit was wrong and will copy thinking it looks ok. Tutorials pass on something of value not injury

That doesn’t mean that we suffer for her. He made the video with a person like this without correcting her in front of the audience (video) to teach form ( like common mistakes blah blah..) not good for people that wanted to repeat this at home. Her hips, her knees.. she needs better cues from the coach. He is not a good instructor. First thing is: measuring the bar so it doesn’t weight more to one side and make you loose the form. “”Cue

+John D you're right. probably because it's not a front squat at all. Body position looks like low-bar squat barely holding onto a bar in front of the body.

Crossfit 101. 1. Have bad form. 2.Act better than everyone. 3 Curl in the Squat Rack 4. Kip the fuck out of your pull-ups. Remember, momentum is more important than form. 5. House music. You are now ready to be in the crossfit games.

+Fish Gainzief Typically, the bars used are the same in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, which is a 20 kilogram bar and a 15 kilogram bar. Each equipment supplier, however, will likely sell a 15lb "technique bar", which can come in handy for a coach who needs lighter bars for various reasons. It's hard to say which type of bar she's using. Usually the 15lb bars are shorter than the one in the video, but you never know. There are countless manufactures making many different types of bars.

Just my 2 cents, her forms tell me that she has not got loads of experience but she’s learning so it’s ok, but it’s not okay when he says “good” when she performs those poor push jerks, seriously, her bar isn’t even on her shoulder. CrossFit can be a great fitness tool but u don’t have to go to a box, not all CrossFit coaches are good I’m afraid so make sure you know the techniques. I personally learn Olympic lifting from Mattie Rogers, Tian Tao, Liu xiaojun

Seems the front rack is not for new people … the front squat can be done differently than using the frontt rack shown.

here's something someone told me once.1-take a 19 20 liter water bottle fill it up .2-tape up your wrists ,knees,and ankles.3-pick the bottle up from the sides like you'd lift a baby/little child and Squat-press and dead lift-press till ur heart's content. This should pretty much make up for all the ten.
