In the early days of toy train transformers, there were no circuit breakers. This could result in burns, fires, or other hazards. Circuit breakers like the American Flyer 1275 were introduced to increase safety. The 1275 is relatively small, measuring 2-1/4“ x 3“ and about 2” high. They worked very well. While the two models I am demonstrating today have the same model number, one has an adjustment and the other does not. Thanks for watching!

Very nice. Interesting that those both tripped before the breaker in your 8B transformer did.

Good observation. They are fairly sensitive!

I picked up an early American Flyer transformer from eBay a few years ago and got it working again. It didn't have a part number on it, but had 6 voltage taps with a selector (5-1/2, 6, 6-1/2, 7, 7-1/2, and 8 volts). It was rated at 50 watts. I found that at 120V and 60Hz it couldn't really make that output power. I figured out that if I supplied it with a higher frequency from an inverter, such as 400Hz, I could get well over 50 watts out of it by raising the voltage up to 240V (of course, all the output voltages were doubled as well). I ended up using the transformer to charge my laptop and some tool batteries. It's run for ~16 hours a day for the past 3 years now. Here's a video I did on the process, if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaqxeHh4r8-sers

Marx guy here, amongst my Dad`s Lionel parts ,I came across a Marx 25 Watt Circuit Breaker 2"L X 2"W X 3/4"H in size with two leads and no I. D. code. It doesn`t have a reset on it. Do you think it`s automatic?

I may have one of those. Yes, it probably resets when it cools. If it is the one I am thinking of, it may be HO?

@@daveclarklumber I installed it in series with my Flyer #2 transformer, and it works fine.
