Thanks for doing this type of video! Your videos and explanations are clear and it helps someone newer to this like me to be able to follow along. I have only been playing with postwar Lionel for a few weeks but already my favorite part is working on the old locos and getting them running. I look forward to parts 2,3, and 4!

Thank you! That’s why I do this! Off course I enjoy it but if it all helps someone else, then that is great. The postwar engines are a great place to start, just take your time and have fun!

Great Video! My Great Grandfather got a 225e engine for my grandfather when he was just a kid, and just like most pre war Lionel trains, it runs great!

@@gbgstrains521 that is absolutely fantastic. Yeah, I’d say clean it up and run it. Even if it’s a light cleaning and lubing, seeing something like that run it what makes this more than a hobby 😊

You're lucky you get to go to train shows. Being in Sandusky OH. They are few and next to none. Before all the craziness there used to be 2/3 small shows about an hour away. But they never started back up. Anyway I LOVE you pricing idea of buying cars at 10/15 dollars. But I have to not count the shipping from eBay in to it. I'm trying to add color to my collection. I bought a B&O Timesaver for 12 and today a Missouri Pacific for 13..I want a Pace Maker but can't find a reasonable one....with a box! I'm BIG on original boxes. A B&O Sentinal would be cool too!!! Keep those videos coming! STAY SAFE AND WELL!!!

I am lucky, I try to remind myself of things like this when I think I want to move out of the north east. We just have access to so much here. If I moved and couldn’t go to train shows I would be so mad! The 10/15 is just a goal, it’s hard once you have to deal with shipping, if I’m shopping for cars, I’ll look for a few cars for sale together or as part of a set, that way the shipping hurts less. Those cars you mention are all nice ones!

Enjoyed the video! Well done. I've never had a 225E. They do look like nice engines. It would be neat to know about the differences in the two shells. Were they simply production changes or something else? Bill B.
@dagryffynhobby3 жыл бұрын
It seems the one with the shiny inside was originally a gunmetal grey loco that someone painted over. Some one else commented that their gunmetal engine had the open cab as well. So it’s possible the open cab came earlier and the closed cab was later in the run. Would be great to find more information on these variations.
@georgewhitacre82763 жыл бұрын
Originally the 225e was gunmetal. That's the finish inside of the one shell.
@dagryffynhobby3 жыл бұрын
Do you think someone painted a gunmetal shell black? Think I could strip the black off to get to restore the gunmetal finish?

The 225E is a great engine. I looked at mine to see if the cab was open or closed and it was open. Mine is gun metal and they do look really sharp. Hint Hint. If you repaint.
@dagryffynhobby3 жыл бұрын
Interesting, and as someone else pointed out, mine with the open cab was originally gunmetal, that’s why the inside looks different. I guess maybe that’s an earlier mold. I don’t know if I want to repaint mine or not, maybe….

I finally found an intact smoke box door for my prewar 225e. Figured ud be the one to ask this question? Whats the best way to adjust the hook on the inside of the smoke box door so it latches properly?
@dagryffynhobby Жыл бұрын
I haven’t found a good way yet when they are loose. I’ve been hesitant to bend them too much. Maybe a little heat and then bend it back into position? Not sure.

The 2025 and 675 have the same shell and that shell is a modification from the 225e mold.

Trying to restore the gun metal grey version of these but sadly the boiler front cannot be saved.. trying to find another has been a challenge
@dagryffynhobby2 жыл бұрын
Trainz has a gunmetal 225e for $131 and the boiler front looks ok. Then you have more parts and can sell one when done. Harder to find a gunmetal front, good luck on your search. I’d try trainz and Henning’s

Whats the difference between the 225E and the 225 ?
@dagryffynhobby2 жыл бұрын
Nothing other than the number on the cab. Lionel would label the engine either way, both are prewar. They didn’t make a 225 in the postwar era. This isn’t the case with the 224. The 224e is the prewar and the 224 is postwar.
