It is a wonderfully sized and detailed little engine. It may be my favorite traditional sized engine.

Nicely done Dave, lookin great! And what's up with these Freakin Ebay prices anymore! The 225e was a basic front catalog train that was at the time cheap. Lol WTF Happened there? $2,3,400 bucks nowadays for a decent 225e??? SMFH Really incredible to believe. But the fact still remains that they are unique and have features the more expensive locomotives had at the time. The opening boiler front makes the cake though, and not seen very often on a cheaper model. But definitely worth having in the collection of pre or post-war. I own a 39 gunmetal grey that's almost cherry, which took a good deal of time to locate, without paying these crazy ebay trending prices. Ya know things are F-ked up when the average going prices of a 225e are competitive with a 226e. So today, you have a choice, buy a roached out 226 or a decent 225 LMAO! Weird stuff man! Very good video Dave and keep slammin on the layout, she's gettin there brother and looks awesome, wish I had that kind of space to expand. 😊

Thank you! Yeah prices are nutty. Part of it I think is the tender, drives the price up a little, but a 225 shouldn’t be that much. Maybe if it’s a perfect example. It’s definitely more of a premium model when compared to a lot of the postwar engines. And the motor in it is a really good one. Either way, eBay is nuts!

When it comes to drying,once I've given a thorough drying with an absorbent cloth I like use a hair dryer on its lowest setting,seems to get the job done.As a side note the 225EIs one of my favorite prewar locos.

Yeah after reading some of the comments, I think I’ll move to using a hair dryer next time, compressed air is too forceful. The 225e is a great prewar loco, great dimensions and performance.

Thanks Bill, I think I’m changing and moving away from the compressor and using something like a hairdryer next time. Just to lessen the possibility of paint damage
@billharrold6038
@billharrold6038 3 жыл бұрын
Ah, you think the compresser is making the paint flake from the higher psi. Hair dryer on the cooler low setting maybe? That will definitely have a lot less psi. Great idea.
@dagryffynhobby
@dagryffynhobby 3 жыл бұрын
@@billharrold6038 my compressor is set to max out at 120 psi, which is a lot, operating pressure is usually around 90 psi. I haven’t noticed it cause any flakes but it definitely is a risk.

I use a similar method. I use a shoe brush after drying the wd40 off. Puts a nice sheen on the parts.

Really enjoyed this one. Especially since I do the exact same thing when cleaning up a shell. I have also used compressed air but I’ve also used a hair dryer mostly on cool setting. Works great too. Ok so I have a request/suggestion/challenge for you…next video you do after this, you need to do a man bun with your hair. :-) If I had hair, and I don’t, I’d do one. Later dude…take it easy! Tim

This is my first hairdo request on my channel. I’ll see what I can do! Lol. 💈 The compressed air - along with other feedback I’ve received, I think it’s too powerful and should go with something softer like a fan or hairdryer. Another good tip. 👍

I do not touch up defects, I’m ok with an occasional chip or scratch, they are old toys after all, I feel like it adds a little character, and shows some of the piece’s history.

That’s a good wife! You don’t find the dishwasher to be too hot? Do you use it just for the die cast? Have you washed plastic shells in the dishwasher? You got me thinking now!
@terrystrainsdownunder9856
@terrystrainsdownunder9856 3 жыл бұрын
@@dagryffynhobby I have used it only with die cast shells. I does a really good job at removing decades of dirt and grime. I'm concerned that plastic shells may warp with the high water temp. Everybody has there own methods of cleaning there trains. Note: I got this idea when I saw the guy used his dishwasher to clean engine parts 😀

I use dish washing soap, a (usually) soft paint brush with warm water . l have a window fan blowing down from the ceiling beside the heater. Washed items are on a rippled plastic tray, hanging below the fan. Drying is gentle to not blow off paint. It is quite fast. It works well on washed sneakers too. When I was working for a Lansdale train store, I had blown paint off a customer's item, to my horror. That's why I set up my gentle drying stream.
@dagryffynhobby

That’s a great idea and a very good point about the compressed air - I didn’t even think of blowing paint off. Glad I haven’t done that yet, I may adopt your method. Seems much safer. Thanks for sharing.
