The battle with the grizzly is an all time moment for me in Predator history, much of the franchise, we’ve seen the creatures use mostly weaponry, and the few times they’ve fought humans one on one, it’s an obvious mismatch due to size, but never an actual proper gauge of just how strong predators actually are . In the grizzly scene however, we get to see that not only are predators strong, they have unearthly type physical power and unfathomable speed for their size.

I say this on pretty much every video covering Prey, but as a Native American, I f'n LOVED how the Camanche were portrayed! I'm Oji-Cree, but Native American nonetheless. But I loved the correlation between the Predator and Naru, it was amazing. The Predator having landed on Earth for his rite of passage, and to possibly scout the land and see which prey would be worthy to hunt. Which is shown by the Predator moving up from a Snake to a wolf to a Grizzly Bear, and ultimately deciding that the humans were the prized hunt. And while the Predator was on his rite of passage, Naru wanted to do the same thing. Only Naru was expected to be a gatherer and a healer, being looked down upon by the other hunters and warriors, due to the hierarchy that their tribe has. This is what made Naru dangerous to the Predator, as she had the skill to beat the Predator, due to her being a better hunter. All the while the Predator had not seen her as a threat, and this was shown multiple times. With Naru being stuck in the bear trap, the Predator willingly let her go. And while Naru and her brother were also used as bait, the Predator instead went after the fur trappers, ignoring Naru and her brother. This also shows the hubris of the Predator and how petty the young Predator is. When the Predator had been foolish enough to step into the bear trap, the Predator used the bear trap as a weapon and threw it at one of the trappers. With Naru witnessing how the Predator fights and knowing the Predators code of honor, while also witnessing the Predator can be successfully baited due to it's own arrogance, Naru had planned her trap for the Predator. Factoring in the thermal vision, the mask' aim bot guidance system, the tactics of the Predator and the arrogance of the Predator, she made her plan. Knowing full well that when the Predator seen the carnage that Naru had caused to the trappers, the Predator must have mistook the one who killed the trappers as Naru's brother while underestimating Naru because she is a female, as the Predator had went straight for Naru's brother once he reveals himself. But her plan had succeeded, with the Predator dying at the hands of it's own hubris. Because Naru is *smarter than a beaver.* While the young Predator was *not smarter than a beaver.* Because like Naru's mother said, she became a great hunter once her survival was on the line. Beautiful movie, awesomely violent and jumps right into the action after character introduction.

I love how the predator in this film copies the other predators he observes, he observes the snake coil and strike towards him with its fangs, when fighting the wolf he coils and bares his fangs, like the snake. Same with the wolf, he observes it stalk its prey allowing itself to be closer when the inevitable chase happens, he uses the same with the last of member Naru's hunting party, when they're in the grass he stalks them and gets closer so once they flee he can catch them with ease like the wolf did with the rabbit, even the cinematography has the same feel as the wolf chasing the rabbit.

What is interesting about the Predator prey relationship is that Predators while on paper are superior always underestimate their prey. As stated by Naru’s mother they (her tribe) don’t hunt for sport but for survival. When Naru starts the film she is trying to hunt to prove something (not unlike the Predator). As the film progresses she has to switch her mindset to that of survival. The predator does not hunt for survival but for sport. This difference in mindset is why I believe Naru triumphs and the Predator does not. Humans in most (good) Predator entries are survivors.

One of the better reviews of Prey and how Naru’s applied critical thinking throughout the movie to gain an advantage on her hunt of the feral predator. Also worth mentioning that defeating the hunter was still a group effort as it had a tremendous amount of damage inflicted while hunting it’s way up the food chain. Even the wolf got a piece of it. The bear nearly killed it. The Comanche’s hunters were able to make him bleed before Tabbe chipped it up so much it had to cloak and retreat only to sneak up behind and him and kill Tabbe but not before he slowed the predator down with that last shiv to the leg. Leaving only Naru who tells the feral predator this is as far as you go, no more. This is it.

Yeah but it doesn't help the stupid plot hole that hinders the entire movie: The medicine that she gives Rafael, and takes herself that's supposedly drops their body temperature. Anyone who's familiar with hypothermia knows that (especially if you served in the military and have looked through thermal or "infrared" imaging) If your body temperature goes to the point where there's no heat signature present, you're basically dead. There's no way Rafael would be able to lay still without being able to shake or shiver. Nor could Naru put up a coordinated fight with their core temperature dropping to hypothermic levels. Same goes for everyone else that took that medicine. But of course we need PLOT ARMOR in order to try and make a badass female warrior equivalent to her male counterparts. But in the process of doing that they made it realistically unrealistic.

@@Jbreeze3878 oh so when someone disagrees with you you're not adult enough to accept it and agree to just disagree. You have to state that "well it's not that serious." Who says it was serious? The same accolades you praised it for, doesn't over shadow it's discrepancies. Stating flaws is just as plausible as stating achievements. Don't be childish and throw a hissy fit because someone doesn't see things your way. If I REALLY wanted to pick apart the movie there are a plethora of issues I can list. Of course it's fiction. But at the same time there are certain things writers could overcome without relying on imaginations that couldn't rival a 5th graders intelligence. Even my 11 y/o was able to pick up on the hypothermia issue. At least in the original movie they were slightly clever enough to use mud (which doesn't lower your CORE body temp) to conceal body heat. I thought they were going to go that route with the quicksand she fell in. Which imo would've more clever, but she washed it off. So that would've been a good way to also find out about it's vision weakness. Observations arent taking things seriously. It's just putting a mediocre movie in the place it fits: A good popcorn flick. TRUST ME! The original is a classic, a masterpiece. Literally one of my favorite movies of all time. However, by serving in the military myself, I could pick that movie apart on its many flaws too. nice to have a review from someone who not only understands the lore but gets into the predators' heads. of course a hulking alien with advanced technology would take out any human warrior of any time, except for it's own hubris. the devil is in the details and too many reviewers and critics don't fully understand the character before they dismiss things like naru growing up under her brother, who is the best hunter in their tribe and becomes a warchief during the events of the movie. not to mention that life is that of a native american, not one of a modern mall rat. she's going to be tough, she has the will to hunt and the will to fight. she wants to be a warrior. she's put in work to get there, just off screen. it's funny to me that the same people that whine about movies telling too much and not showing are the ones that aren't paying attention when the movie shows more than it tells. if this was a one armed male comanche it would be lauded as an outright amazing tale of overcoming a difficulty. but because it's about a female comanche, in a time where females would have been considered and treated as lesser, people go in with the assumption that it's 'woke' and naru's a mary sue. we see her fail. alot. we see her persevere. then ultimately after a great loss and battle she wins by using her strengths, which are obviously less physical to a predator, but perhaps more tactical. it's david and goliath. the classic underdog story. thanks for a review that recognizes that rather than compares her to something like rey who just all the sudden without any effort at all could wield the force and a lightsaber with ease. we never saw rey bleed. naru bleeds, and as we know if it bleeds, we can kill it.

@sbird86752 жыл бұрын
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Naru is definitely not a Mary Sue, as you said, the movie actually shows the audience her training process, her fails and her learning from her mistakes. It also shows that unlike Arnold, who was facing off against a healthy Predator, by the time Naru goes 1 v 1 against her Predator, he's been dealt some pretty serious damage by the Comanche warriors, especially Taabe who managed to spear him right through. It helps level the playing field a bit. The movie also shows that this Predator has a harder time with smaller, swifter prey than large prey- the wolf is able to last almost as long as the bear because it's able to dodge around the Predator's attacks. Sarii, Taabe, and Naru all use swift in and out attacks against the Predator, making it hard for him to pin them down. Taabe would've likely won his fight with the Predator if it didn't cloak itself because he was so much faster than it.

This was a damn good movie. I had zero expectations, leaning on more negative, but oh boy... this actually blew me away. Real nostalgic/Predator 1 vibes. Maybe cause of the brutality and horror aspects.. Really cool cast and all around. Some really cool camera work and cinematography too. Like they took The Revenant and threw a Predator in there. I love how we see Naru and the predator evolve their hunting styles throughout the movie, mirroring each other almost perfectly. Both are hunting in the beginning to try and prove something and incredibly inexperienced because of it, but as the movie goes on both learn from the predators around them (Naru from the predator itself, the predator from the wolf, bear, snake, hunters, etc) and both are at their peak when they stop hunting for pride and instead fight for survival.

@trackerjacker54672 жыл бұрын
I’ll be honest, when I first saw the trailer, I was doubtful. One of the things I had a problem with is how Naru was going to possibly come out on top, given the massive technology gap between the Camache tribe and the Yautja species alone. I now realize that I was making the same mistake that the predator did! It was clearly very inexperienced and overconfident in its own abilities, whereas Naru being at a disadvantage forced her to be more resourceful and tactical. In the end the predator’s ego was its downfall. Great movie👍

I totally agree. The more I watch it and analyse it the more I come to appreciate and love it. It’s sad that people choose to believe this is a woke feminist film because of some bs reasons and applying past movies to this one, but it’s so one sided and really arrogant! You and others get it more and that’s why people should either shut up or do some proper research and analysis!

My main gripes with this movie were the fact that the predator constantly fought with its camo active, which seems highly dishonourable to me. It's just being annoyed with a concept: "Oh wamen want man job Wamen skrong?!?! TERRIBLE!" rather than the actual execution of the themes. Lol absolute manlet behavior. Just as women all through recorded history were dismayed, pissed off, annoyed, and challenging of gender norms so was the MC. @@cavingonzalez2901 It's not that women can't be strong in the movies, it's the premise that this sets up. She basically wants to be a warrior...just because someone told her she can't be? She and the rest of the boys except her brother act and look like present day teenagers, not Comanche warriors to be. Would have been a little more believable if she and her brother fought the predator together and won but that was just ridiculous. It was basically the opposite of the first Predator movie where a macho man who thought is unbeatable loses all his friends and is powerless to do anything and then barely wins the fight with the predator after taking multiple hard hits. We basically see a great warrior of our time get dumbed down to simple prey in the span of a movie which is believable.
