The producer for this film (Prey) is Jhane Myers, an enrolled member of the Comanche Nation, her involvement was instrumental in honestly depicting the Comanche people. I was touched by your final dialogue of this film, as well as your take on the Predator, as seen through the the lens of a survivalist-first hunter, which therefore explains its fixation on what it considers a threat. Also, since you’re a filmmaker, would love to see your romantic comedy film with a First Nations actor as its lead. This film clearly shows Hollywood and other global studios that all excuses for not finding Indigenous actors in lead roles are simply excuses. Regarding the Wind River recommendation: Jhane Myers was also part of the crew behind Wind River. Awesome reaction!

@CB-eo6xo Жыл бұрын
I think the predator doesn't intend to kill her instantly during their final battle because he probably finds her as a big challenge worth having a chance to fight personally. Sometimes, when a Predator finds someone they consider very worthy prey that can fight back, they likely will be willing to drag out the fight for a bit and occasionally throw away their most effective weapons to make it more challenging. Along with perhaps she also has a mix of being lucky (or plot armor as some people would call it), fighting and setting traps strategically to wear the Predator down, and maybe the Predator underestimated her that it never thought she could use it's weapons against it.

Well, I agree about Predator vs. Different regional warriors of the ages, but this film is stated as being the Predator species' first time on Earth. Now, Vikings came to an end towards the end of, or shortly after, the 11th century. Now samurai, mid-19th century. But what about Yakuza? Pirates? Old West gunslingers? Soldiers of the Revolution, or of the Civil War? OR... what I would REALLY love to see - an alternate history - Predator vs Nazis... where the Predator is actually responsible for killing Hitler, rather than Hitler being a puxxy.

A couple things you might find interesting. Amber Midthunder has been in a few things, perhaps most notably a major role in the TV show "Legion" (which was a fantastically weird X-Men related show from a few years ago). Also, in addition to the English dialogue seen here, Dan Trachtenberg filmed this movie with a full Comanche-language dub, done by the same actors. In fact, it was originally intended to be released in Comanche. You can search for it specifically and watch it dubbed (again, by the same actors) in Comanche with English subtitles. I recommend it if you are up for watching it again - it's a very interesting and immersive experience.

Kazzy...The HUGE thing about this movie is that for over a hundred years, the entertainment industry has claimed that natives can't be heroes, and that if a native was a hero in a movie then the movie would fail, both financially and critically. When there was a heroic "native" they were often played by white guys: Johnny Depp as Tonto; Tom Laughlin as Billy Jack. THIS movie proved them WRONG. An aside about the predator...it comes to a planet to feed its ego. It seeks out the most powerful threat and make a trophy out of them then takes the skulls back and brags. It kills...Not for food...Not for defense...but for bragging rights. Nothing more.

As someone who is part Native American, I love this movie. They did a phenomenal job bringing respect to the culture (which Hollywood really hasn't done a great job with) and the science fiction aspect of Predator to it. I also wholeheartedly agree that Native American representation needs to be established but in tasteful and proper ways. This movie is a step forward in that direction too many non-stereotypical roles.

Job not for Kazzy: working in a slaughterhouse. Check. P.S. Native Americans also attacked settlers who had done nothing but be in their territory, so they had a part in the way history played out, too. Too often it's portrayed that Europeans just came in and pushed out natives who were peaceably existing when tribes constantly fought each other long before Europeans arrived.

The french fur trade was a massive industry in Europe because only in north America could you find such exotic furs. They did it for money. No they didn't respect our land or our culture when single fur traders made enough money to make company's like the one employed in this movie. Also this predator is a male. In Predator or Yautja lore it's sort of an unspoken rule among their species, that females dont hunt. Not that they're not allowed. But they are bigger faster more fierce so it's just kind of understood that a female hunter would have too much of an unfair advantage compared to their male counter parts. They train and raise their children pretty much by themselves as most other males are training or hunting. So they make the current hunters. That's how fierce and powerful female hunters are. There was one story where an elite team designed to kill predators, hunt like four of them. They all were brothers. And mama got pissed. She hadn't hunted since like Egyptian times. But she came out of retirement just to annihilate the team. Let the squad leader live communicating something like "you took my kids. I have to live with that. Now I took yours and you have to live with that." I love the predator films and comics.

Hello, Kazzy. How are you feeling today, my queen? Glad you watched (and enjoyed) the movie. So, even though I've clips and scenes of the other Predator movies, I've never actually watched a Predator movie from beginning to end. So, Prey is legit my first Predator movie. Overall, I really enjoyed watching it. Naru is an amazing character, and the actress that plays her (Amber Midthunder) is a future superstar. Dakota Beavers, in his first film role, as the brother was really likable. Also, Naru's dog (which was adopted for the movie) was the MVP. I can't tell you how many times I was scared for the dog. The Predator (named Feral Predator) was a total badass in this movie. That Predator was a savage, I'm telling you. The brutality was something else. I also liked the atmosphere, the cinematography, the score, the tone and the scope of everything. It was also delightful to see Indigenous People/Native Americans have the spotlight. I love to see more and more of it. Yes, the animal deaths were sickening, but all (excluding the dog) were CGI, especially the bear, so I wasn't that pressed about it. Unfortunately, this was the way of the land back then. The 3 best callbacks to the Predator films, in my opinion, was the "If it bleeds" line from the first movie, the "do it" homage to Dutch (also from the original movie) and the gun from Predator 2. If you don't know, Danny Glover was given the gun shown in this movie by the other Predators at the end after defeating one of them in combat. Unfortunately, there have been "people" who criticized the movie for having a female non white lead, and the "realism" of Naru taking on the Predator or other people. I wouldn't pay them any mind, because they aren't worth it. Apparently, the final shot of the cave art credits is suggesting either a sequel or coming to retrieve their fallen warrior. Also, there have been many fan theories about what a follow-up film could be. The most famous one is a Predator movie set in feudal Japan with the samurai starring Hiroyuki Sanada ("The Last Samurai"; he was Scorpion in the recent Mortal Kombat movie that you reacted to). That movie would be incredible! Anywho, this movie was so much fun. I'd watch it again.

I think your analysis of this movie was really good. It definitely raises a lot of ethical questions, and I find it interesting how even the Predator has higher morals than the European colonists. I also think that it's very important not to sugarcoat history, which has definitely happened way too much in the past - which is why I think movies like these are important, especially as they reach a different target audience compared to historical dramas. I also appreciated that the CGI in the movie is not really the best - as at least it lets you know that no real animals were harmed or killed in it. I wonder if that was intentional or not.

Kazzy That Predator has to be a Feral or a Youngblood Predator or their species called Yautja. This one is considered as a teen in their world. Because he uses weapons not advanced as the one in 1987's movie. This predator was sent down to prove himself in his 1st hunt on Earth. If Predator makes his quest successfully. Predator becomes fully fledged member of his people. Motherships drops off hunters for their hunts. But he ran into the Comanche, who are well verse in their hunting skills. Formidable adversary for the Predator.

It is sad that this film never went to cinema as it could have been so much bigger, it also saddens me how many are like the film is crap because how could a tiny girl take down a predator........ ant, rat, snake, cougar, wolf, rabbit, buffalo, Sarii's rat, bear. the movie focuses on the predator/prey relationships found in nature and with humans, then you have the buffalo slaughtered for their fur and as a means to starve the native populations as they were a main food source. the predator saw that there was no honor when the fur traders took the buffalo out, it was just meaningless slaughter. it's why he was so mad ta the fur traders and went ham on them like he did.

The Predator doesn’t eat who and what he hunts. If it’s worthy prey, he hunts them for sport. He takes the skulls as trophies. If someone or something inferrers with the hunt -weather they know it or not- the Predator, or as the species is called “Yaūtja,” will skin them to dishonor them. This Yaūtja is a different breed than the 1987 one cause he was from a more dessert region on the homeworld, Yaūtja Prime.

There are mainstream actors who have Native American blood, such as Johnny Depp and Lou Diamond Phillips. But not many. I think a large part of the reason why there are still underrepresented groups in Hollywood films is because America is still predominantly white/Caucasian. That is rapidly changing now. Regardless, I personally don't care what your race or background is. If you're able to put out a solid good story, then that is first and foremost important to me. I don't NEED to see myself on the big screen in order to relate to another ethnic character. White, black, brown, or pink with purple polka-dots. -OG

If you want a really interesting show with indigenous peoples, I'd strongly recommend Reservation Dogs. The young lady who starred in this movie appears in one episode in a VERY different role. Loved your reaction and insights as always. Keep on keepin' on Kaz. 💙

I thought it was pretty obvious that the predator didn’t killed those buffalos.

Very good review. I was first very sceptical about the movie but after several friends told me to watch it i did and im loving it! It is now my 3rd favourite Predator movie (after 1+2). I was immediately sure that it wasn't the Predator who skinned the Buffalos (he anyway only collect the Skulls)! I knew it where the trappers because back then they did almost extinct them (the American Government did arrange this to starve the native Americans out...). It is very upsetting and is also shown very well in several Kevin-Coster-Westerns, which i also really can recommend to watch (or read about it in history books).

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I THINK NARU IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST FEMALE LEAD CHARACTERS THAT I'VE SEEN SINCE RIPLEY AND SARAH CONNOR!! I'VE SEEN A COUPLE OF REACTORS THAT WEREN'T BLOWN AWAY BY THIS BUT I THINK THE MAJORITY FIND THIS RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE FIRST TWO PREDATOR MOVIES!!! I THINK IT'S EQUAL TO THE FIRST ORIGINAL PREDATOR!!! AND NARU'S WAR CRY AT THE END WAS EPIC!!! I FEEL IT IN MY SOUL, IT'S SO SATISFYING!!!!

I liked this installment in the series. While some are not fans of the Robert Rodrigez movie Predators. It is my favorite in the series after the first movie with Arnold. Also, may I say you look like you are less stressed than you have in a while, and I am glad. Thanks for the upload and your reaction.

Predators WAS my favorite... until this came out. I just loved how they went and did something totally different with the game reserve planet. So Prey, then Predators. After Predators, Predator 2 is my 3rd favorite. And while I know this is most controversial, and would get me slaughtered in a Predator message board/fan page or the like, The Predator is my 4th favorite, and Predator is my least favorite. The original is too slow for me, and - yes, I know this will sound crazy - but I've never been a fan of movies or television shows that are just raging with testosterone and masculinity. And no, I'm not some fruity queen with limp wrist who tucks my 🕹. It's just that much testosterone /masculinity has always made me uncomfortable. And I have an aversion to seeing such big, massive brawny men. I have never understood this desire to look like that, or to be attracted to someone that looks like that.
