I have the PRGR using it outdoors at the range. PRGR picks up about 80% of swings in my experience. I’m looking at other monitors at the next price point up hoping for more accurate info.
@LifeLover20203 жыл бұрын
Do you have the newer 2021 version or the older version?
@josephmcgee14543 жыл бұрын
I have the older model of the PRGR. The carry distance seems to be calculated based on the club selection in the device. The video appears to show that Driver (W1) was selected for all the tests. I recently had a mental lapse while using mine at the range and left it on "I7" (seven Iron) after I had switched to hitting Driver. It took me a few minutes to grasp why my Driver was only carrying 203. After I realized I had the wrong club selection, I switched the PRGR to Driver (W1) it showed a gain of 40 yards carry. But I really think that head speed and smash factor are really the only two values worth using.
@jayfangRSA3 жыл бұрын
I noticed this "W1" setting as well on the video as well. I use PRGR and if you want to look at carry then MUST select the right club where it will use a sensible spin profile. I do not use PRGR for gapping but rather efficiency of strike and consistency,
@Brewtal20093 жыл бұрын
I have PRGR and love it - for info Ib think it got the carry distances wrong as you need to set the club first on the PRGR. You had it set at W1 (driver) shown in top right of screen. As I understand it the algorythms (based on pre-=programmed loft and spin numbers) are different depending on club selected. Hold down Enter and uses arrows to scroll through the clubs.
@MrUlfdub2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the in depth reporting. By now you obviously realize the monitor MUST be set to each iron hit for distance. It would be great if you consider doing a multiple 7 Iron test (3 irons) using weak to strong lofts on the 7 iron setting. You could then pick the most accurate results based on LOFT and perhaps see if the stronger lofted club needs a 6 Iron setting and so on. This would be appreciated.
@stevefurniaux9978 Жыл бұрын
I think it done incredibly well seeing as you had the unit on the floor rather than elevated and didn't change the club selection at all. Strange how the carry was closer when you actually had a driver in hand rather than a wedge or 7 iron.

I kept looking at getting this after seeing other reviews and this is certainly a good measurement to help increase ball/club speed. You should know your optimal distance if your ball speed is X amount, so being off a few yards is no big deal, plus with range balls you focus on the mechanics that hopefully translates to the course. Bonus points that you can use this in your house without hitting a ball!

I stopped watching when they started testing using the wrong club setting…they used driver instead of lob wedge. The club setting is used in the carry/total estimate algorithm. You have to change the club setting whenever you change your club. I have the newer version. It’s great. Especially for inside 80 yds. Old version can’t see most wedge shots. I also use it in garage to calibrate wedge distances based on my known relationship between club speed and distance. Fantastic practice tool.

I would choose the Garmin R10 based on reviews I’ve seen. Also very accurate on club and ball speed like PRGR, but in addition you get “decent” launch, apex, carry, total, spin, path, attack angle, club face etc… A lot of extra data for not that much more $. The carry numbers on PRGR are downright misleading, to the point of being meaningless (the way I strike the ball everywhere but the centre most of the time 😢)
@MrMartwy2 жыл бұрын
I have both. R10 is on another planet... Although it is still not Trackman 4, but R10 gives you tons of info plus it can work as a simulator quite well. In fact, compared to trackman 4 from all data I use it misses only low point and impact location. R10 is a really great piece of technology and recently got better with updates. If you can find one to buy ;-) In my country, they go second hand for like 150% MSRP. I use it basically as a driving range training support. It is good to know why this last ball was so short and curved so much ;-) I've recently bought PRGR for like $60 (dunno why on amazon it is now selling this so cheap) - but the data is very basic. And I keep getting really low readings (like -10, -15 mph club speed from my normal reading) with irons swings without a ball. I guess this "no ball" mode works better only with a driver.

Interesting that you didnt test this without a ball. I got this today for speed training with speed sticks, here is what i noticed so far with 30mins testing, note that my driver swing speed is known at an average of 102mph: 1. Driver speed when hitting a ball is similar to my known speed. 2. Driver speed with no ball is around 10mph lower at around 92-95 at best. 3. 8 iron swing with no ball is around 82mph 4. 8 iron swing speed with a ball is over 100mph! But carry is right(ish) Yes i am changing the club on the device to W1 and I8. This data is wildly inaccurate making me wonder if i can reliably use it for just logging gains assuming i use only the device ans ignore its 10mph lower speed, if i pretend thats my baseline and see a 5mph gain does that mean i am actually gaining 5mph on my real speed of 102mph? Who knows…! Finally i know the speeds are way off with driver as a) its higher with a ball, b) have been tested on gcquad, c) i have a launch monitor that doesnt measure club but accurately measures ball speed to within 1mph, and that shows driver ball speed of around 155mph which is impossible with a sub 100mph swing speed, certainly a 95mph one. All in all, im very underwhelmed with this device.
